Can anyone tell me if any special sata power/data cable is required for a slimline dvd player over an ordinary sized drive? I plan on building a Silverstone SG07 which requires the use of a slimline optical drive. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106322

Lol Dr! I know where the freakin thing goes...give me some script man!
Every reviewer on the Egg complained they did not recieve a "special" sata cable with their slim drive...I have no idea what they mean.![]()
Most of the time, people buy a slim drive for their laptops. The laptops typically have a uni-cable installed already, and you hook that up to the drive. This is what the manufacturer of a slim drive is expecting, thus they do not include a cable.
There is nothing special about the cable. It's just a sata and a power cable merged to one cord. However, sata and sata power cables differ in width a little bit in desktops. Depending on your cables, you may have to sand the edge of the connectors down a little so they will fit side by side. Just the plastic molding, nothing else.
I'd actually be slightly surprised if the SG07 did not come with an adaptor cable for the optical drive.

That offering from the Egg is OEM, you wont get anything but the drive itself.
Something like this might be of help to you.

Thanks Kipper - That appears to be a cable for someone who has no sata power connectors on their psu and they have combined a sata data cable along with it...correct me if I am wrong.
It still looks as tho I can connect individual cables to the drive as one would normally do.

Update : Here is what I have found... http://www.digistor.com/Digistor-Sli...2&category=836
The sata power connector is indeed physically smaller than normal. My guess is these drives are more likely to be installed in laptops...the other sata connector (data) is normal.

Parts on the way! The SG07 will house a 5870, i5 670, OCZ Vertex 2 60GB and WD 1TB Black. This will be doing double duty as my 24/7 and game rig...Wish me luck!![]()
