Default I think it's time to tighten up registration.

Just looked at the forums. Eight spam threads from two "users". Isn't there something that can be done about this? It's getting crazy.

The ad/spam activity does seem to have picked up quite a bit. I seem to run into posts worth reporting somewhat frequently. Perhaps add a few more bot screening questions on top of the "spelling test". I don't see how they're making it past the image test though. Has computer vision finally caught up?

I don't think it's bots. It's real people who create accounts, login, then post their spam and never show up again.

I'm gonna take a positive spin on this:
Well, we have spammers now, maybe this means PureOC is being recognized more and more.

    Yeah.....
Anyway, I wish I knew how to help in tightening up the security. I'm still working on getting a filter done for my site's email. That's been in the works for over a year.

we can blanket ban Africa and then tell them that their continent requires their messaging of an administrator

99.9% of the spammers are out of africa, nigeria to be specific, the other 10% are from jamaica, and another 15% from everywhere else

    Ohh yes.... Jamaica is huge.

Many terrorist operations get $ from unaware people.

Another good scam is in the office products industry. There is a town in Northern New York by Canada that houses bogus companies(forgot the town name). They called one of my stores and told the manager we have credit card paper on hold for you. There is a limited supoply. Would you like us to send the last box. 3 Managers said yes and signed for them. They sent an invoice for $200 per box(20 credit card machine rolls). I finally got in touch with them and told them to F$%^ OFF. The guys got beligerant with me and said they were going to sue me. I told them to be my guest! My boss accidently paid for 1 not knowing.. He was nervous they had the company credit card number..... They never charged anything to it after the 1st charge. Could cost us $600. Very Lucky....

I was formerly an operations manager of a flooring distribution company, and a similar scam happened to us but I dealt with it in time. Too bad it cost your company $600... it shouldn't have cost you a cent... and it doesn't matter that they were signed for at your end - that simply proves delivery, not consent to make the initial order. I assume that the price charged was not the price quoted? As such, the vendor/crooks broke the verbal agreement made on the phone, and you have every right to return the products to them and get your money back. You can also have said that the people who agreed to the order were not authorized to make such purchases and, I assume, there was no written order form/invoice that was signed/agreed to by webform/agreed to by e-mail? If the vendor/crooks refuses to get a return (most likelt), send them a written record (via e-mail or snail mail) summarizing the events that transpired, as well as their refusal, and then have made a chargeback via the credit card company and kept the products.
