    Default Dual GPU Guide

Now i know that this has been covered. In other threads i decided id post this anyway so that noobs new cmers and someone looking for a quick tip can find this relatively easly instead of wading through pages of other threads. So without further adue.

Ok first we need to do some work....if you havent already go into your control panel

    go to folder options
    Go to the veiw tab
Check "Show hidden files and folders".
and uncheck "hide extensions for known file types"
no its time so set this up
    Go to "My computer"
and go into the windows drive

Now go to Documents and settings

now that your in documents and settings go to YOUR folder
once inside your folder their will be a hidden folder called "Application Data"

    once inside application data
you will see were the F@H work is done....

we want to right click on this and select rename after we do that COPY the name dont change it. After you copy the name of the folder right click and make a new one. when it prompts you to enter a name paste the one you just copyied and simply add a "2" to the end.

After youve done this...go into the original "Folding@home-gpu" folder and COPY everything in it.
than paste it in the folder you just made "Folding@home-gpu2"
now that were done with application data we go to our desktops
make sure the client is off....and delete all shortcuts to it from your desktop and startup folder in the start menu..were going to make new ones....
now right click on your desktop and select "New">"shortcut"

after youve done that its time to have some fun.
what we do now is when the shortcut windows pops up we browse to the primary F@H exe and select it.

after we select it we need to modify the "Target" line a little bit what were goping to do is Click next now type the following exactly as i have it below their will be a space inbetween the "-" in the code and the last "e" in .exe
    Code:
    -gpu 0
it will look like this. Note that this is outside the parentheses

now do the same thing with a second shart cut..only this time were are going to write
    Code:
    -gpu 1
now that that is done we have to modify a few more things...first make sure your shortcuts are numbered..like F@H1 and F@H2 this is IMPERATIVE
now that that is done...copy the following into you respective..Target and Shortcut sections...under the shortcuts properties...you can do this by right clicking and going to properties.

In the "Target" feild of shortcut 1 type the following
    Code:
    "x:\Program Files\Folding@home\Folding@home-gpu\Folding@home.exe" -gpu 0
were "x" is your install directory
In the "Start in" feild type the following
    Code:
    "x:\Documents and Settings\Solaris17\Application Data\Folding@home-gpu"
were "x" is your install directory
Now that we have done that your good now time to work on short cut #2
the steps are the same so im going to be lazy and simply type the feild code.
In the "Target" feild of shortcut 1 type the following
    Code:
    "x:\Program Files\Folding@home\Folding@home-gpu\Folding@home.exe" -gpu 1
were "x" is your install directory
In the "Start in" feild type the following
    Code:
    "x:\Documents and Settings\Solaris17\Application Data\Folding@home-gpu2"
were "x" is your install directory
now double click on each shortcut unlike the F@H forums this way DOES work and you DO NOT need to disable SLI or Xfire like the F@H site said.
    Happy folding.

This methode can be used with more than 2 GPU's simply repeat the steps as many times as necissary..i have taken the time to writ a small list telling you what gpu tags you should use

    first GPU: -gpu 0
    Second GPU: -gpu 1
    Third GPU: -gpu 2
    Fourth GPU -gpu 3
    Fifth GPU: -gpu 4
    Sixth GPU: -gpu 5
etc...for however many GPU's you have it is always one number below your actual amount because the irst GPU is considered gpu "0"

    Lovely thread, well done.

Seems to be all correct has I was the first to put this in to play with 4 GPU's 9800GX2's wish I had a medal to show it though.

Haven't really folded much laterly because of cooling issues, but I will be back eventually the drivers 177.35 don't work well with games in Vista 64 and I'm having issues with sound again no other CUDA driver gets rid of the sound issue or works well with games.

And has I use this computer mainly for games I've had to stop folding, until there are decent drivers with SLI capability I will not be folding but when I start again I will hit 20000 PPD 25000 at a push.

Good stuff Solaris, That has certainly saved me a job and is done much more professionally than any of my efforts. I guess you've been at this for quite a while (the forums thing)......I reckon I'll be picking your brains on quite a few minor details  that I missed over the years.

By the way reQs right about the medal thing...might make up for the slapping he got from Folding forum when beating them to multi GPU

Right I've done this now and am ready to start running the clients but before I do With the exception of Everest nothing I have from nVidia or EVGA is seeing the third card (GTX) and yesterday I tried to overclock the card(s) Gx2) with one client running and although both core and shaders were up by over 10% I saw no increase in speed of the client.

I've never had more than 1 card before...am I missing something?

it might be a cpu bottleneck but you wont see in increase in ppd just yet after oc it usually takes one WU before the ppd starts to increase it wont increase if the WU has already been running the PPD imprvement will usually be seen at the beginning of the next fresh unit....ppd might aslo seem lower if the current WU is in its final stages ussually 60% completion or more because the card doesnt have alot more to do so its not enugh time to increase the PPD.

First...I'm folding again!!! But i've obviously got something set up or installed wrong

The gx2 is folding but after using EVGA precision to OC it seems to have only taken effect on 1 card...... card0= 5184ppd, card1= 5529

Card2 is not working (folding) at all "At present your card is not supported or you need a current driver" is the message when trying to start the client

Any of you fine chaps got any ideas?

get winrar and unpack the 177.79 frover...then go into the control panel in the device manager right cl;ick on the GTX and force install the driver by navigating to the .ini in the 177.79 driver folder.

I shut down for the purpose of putting the second stick of ram back in and to take notes about power used by each card and I'm back where I started. The first and second cards are folding just fine now the third is folding too but at half speed and not overclocked so at about 2500ppd. on its own it folds at just short of 5k.

The differences this time....I've extended onto all 3 screens.....Folding starts but slows when other GPU starts up......Rivatuner still sees the card and the driver but will not register the base settings.

So can anone think of what could have changed following a re-boot?
