Only on benchmarks. I am running the 5920K and no matter what I toss at it gaming or work related wise does it ever use more than 4 cores. Even then it isnt 100% of those 4 cores. I personally do not see the point unless you are using a seriously thread heavy application suite that can take advantage of the 6 cores plus HT and Quad channel. bragging rights is the only benefit.

Not the 5920K Sandy it's the 5820K. And yes, been buying a lot lately,.......~still~ need the CPU and W/C gear for it.

I think that you mean the 5820K, not the 5920K. 5920K does not exist.

Sam, the main difference in those two CPUs (5820K & 5930K) is the cores running a little faster, and there are a lot more PCI-E lanes available for use. If you have a lot of PCI-E devices or Triple or even Quad Crossfire/SLI, the 5930K is what you want.

Here is a link to a comparison between the two of them.

In my opinion, it is worth the extra money for the added PCI-E lanes. X99 boards have the capability built in for the added PCI-E lanes already. The 5820k doesn't use them all, but the 5930K and 5960X do. All of these CPUs are unlocked for overclocking. The X99 Platform OCs well.

Agreed! I think the PCI-E component is the real reason to upgrade to one of these, especially if you were looking to upgrade Right Now, and wanted the board/cpu combo to serve you for awhile.

Historically, extra PCI-E lanes have only really been relevant to SLI and Crossfire users, but with the near term transition of fast storage to native PCI-E bus connection, to get the most performance out of your high speed storage, you're going to want those extra lanes far more than 100Mhz of Clock speed.

It's worth noting that the Upcoming Skylake Z170 chipset supports 20 PCIe lanes versus th Z97's 8, and the Skylake CPU's also support 16 Lanes. So if X99 is a bit expensive at this point, Z170 might be the one to get, seems like there's enough lanes (36) to support a nice setup without (hopefully) breaking the bank.

Downside, I've read (but not researched) that Intel won't be releasing "K" Skylakes until next year...

Sorry for the typo. Yes I meant the 5820k.

The PCI Lanes are the only added benefit. I was only speaking on CPU processing power. Running 3 or more GPUs sure get the 5930k. Running 2 or more GPUs and plan on using PCIe M.2 or SATA express(Hahahaa) then get the 5930k. If not save your cash.

I got a used i7-4770K for cheap, so I planned a system around it. I just got it done.

Note that I won several Noctua fans last Christmas, So I bought a few more so they would all match one another in the build.

Also, the NZXT Kraken X41 CPU cooler was given to me, so no costs there.

I already had the RAM, Plextor burner, and motherboard on hand.

The Corsair 850W Gold was refurbished and about 90 bucks.

The RAM was on sale at Newegg cheap.

    My parts list:

    i7-4770K @4.5GHz.

    16GB GSKill Sniper DDR3-2400MHz. RAM (4-4G

    Two Sapphire R9-290 Tri-X GPUs

Six 140mm Noctua PWM Fans, and one 120mm Noctua PWM Fan (all new and never used)

NZXT Source 530 Tower case (this was easy to build in) Love this case.

NZXT Kraken X-41 AIO CPU Cooler (free to me, thanks again!)

    Plextor DVD Burner

    Corsair 850W Gold rated PSU.

Firestrike scores are up by more than 1000 compared to the i7-2600K that this replaced.
    All is good.
