Default Need to remove a virus....please help!!!

hey everyone, iv recently aquired a lovely i trojan i cant get rid of permanently.i know if i re-formatted my harddrive it would go but i really dont want to do that as i had to do it recently anyway.
there is a small dos based program thing that attachs itself to startup which is the virus and sure enough kaspersky finds it and deletes it but when i restart my computer there it is again.
also i have a prog running called winupdate.exe but its very obvious its not a legitimate winupdate.
now this one kaspersky doesn't find and neither did NOD32 so does anyone know a way of getting these irritating virus'?
    thanks in advance

well you can stop it from opening on startup by going to

Run> type "msconfig" > click the tab named "startup" and find it on the list and un-check the program. that might keep it from starting up with your computer.
    What?

This link explains how to remove the virus associated with winupdate.exe. Winupdate.exe is a part of the WORM_FALSU.A virus.

Good luck and if it doesn't know, please let us know so we can help further.

Thanks everyone for your help and removing it from the startup boot (the winupdate.exe) seems to have permanentyl removed it as the guide you posted gareth pretty much did the same thing removing the startup registry key.thankyou though as it was beggining to become insanely annoying.
also the winupdate.exe was causing the dos file to run each time. just need to get my windows updates working again...it killed them off pretty quick and also my firewall starting on startup.grrr to viruses!!!!
