Those prices are way to high for what I expect to be a sub par CPU. I doubt the 8350 will perform as well as an i7-2600k and it's more money. Hope I'm wrong and these chips rock because I can use one in my current motherboard. Jim, what's your educated guess?

I am sure Jim will chime in some, but on my take:
Based on what I had read have so far, If they are predicting a 30% increase (info I have found on the net, not fully reliable but rumors) in performance from the previous "Bulldozer" then we can expect them to perform close if not better then the 2600k. However that is all stipulation right now just as it was with Bulldozer during its first introduced.
It hard to say until we see test for its performance, Time will tell. Hopefully we will be getting one for review and put it to the test.
This time around I am going to rout for AMD and hope they stick to what they promise from these chips. If it does perform better then 2600k or even the current market Ivy-B 3770k this will be a big move up for AMD and if the pricing is where it stands it can be competitive IMO.

I'm pulling for them too. I hope the chip lives up the rumors and outperforms the 2600K. If it does, then it's a no brainer upgrade for me. What's nice is they retained AM3+ socket so us AMD guys don't have to run out and buy a new board. If this chip tanks like Bulldozer, then I'll be switching over to the dark side and dealing with the new motherboard every year or so like the rest of you guys.

I thought AMD was the dark side.. lolz
But Intel isn't bad at all.. I've had the 1155 socket for some time now and haven't had to change.. except with my 2011 X79 system. But for the most part I went from P67 to Z68 and Z77 and my 2500k 1155 socket works with all of them.. lolz..I didn't change chips, but mobos.. the other way around..

I have an i7-870 socket 1156 PC here that is three and a half years old. Still works great. It works like it did when new.
My 2600K is on it's second motherboard, (ASRock Z68 Extreme-7 Gen3) but I ~only~ changed it for better specs. (wanted SLI and Crossfire capabilities)
I still have the old ASROCK Z68 Pro3-M socket 1155 board here in it's box, and it may soon get a CPU and replace the 1156 system.
What I'm saying is that these Intel boxes last for a long time and there is nothing 'Dark' about their longevity,..........

AMD is obviously after margin here. This is too much. A $235 launch price would be optimal IMO and 3 months doen the road, $199. thats my take. Trust me guys, it will not be 30% improvement core for core. AMD lies all the time. It may be 30% from stock on the 8150 in a few apps but thats it. Overall, I would say 10-15% performance boost.

That's what I figured. Unless the reviews on this chip are unexpectedly good and the price comes way down, my next chip will be Intel.

I fear that you're right, but I would love to be surprised too.
I still think that AMD should be supported whenever possible, that's why I just bought the FX-4170 CPU.
As I continue to preach as often as I can, Intel's prices would skyrocket without any competition at all.

As much as we hope for the 30% increase we will just have to wait to see.
As I do agree with Jim, 10-15% is optimal from past history, however lets see what AMD can bring to the table.
I am not a AMD fan boy, but would like to see some competition for Intel like the rest of you.
Its the only way to stop them from monopolizing the CPU market. Even though most my systems are now Intel vs AMD.
