Honestly, Samsung phones are the most supported and popular as far as ROMs go. I sell phones (in Canada), tell me what carrier and I will check their handsets out. BTW, you cannot have CDMA and GSM. All depends on which carrier you want.

so i need to get a cell phone
LAST week
i do not have a choice anymore
but im never going to be able to accept the idea of "forfeiting any right to privacy" as the law states a cellphone owner does
so i'm looking at cyanogenmod.org as a way to take control of an android device
but they dont have a specific release for a good phone (android 3 is what im looking at for example) Motorola Droid 3 Specs, Features (Phone Scoop)
everything they support wont do anything for what i need
i need your (pure OC users) advice
what phone can i get that i can root, jailbreak, hack or what ever to use, and use to ONLY what i want to use it for
i need a minimum of these things on a handset:
video conferencing and main camera's
wi-fi
cdma
gsm
Bluetooth
removable battery
web browser
qwerty keyboard (normally hidden)
SD card slot ( preferably 32 gig capability)

while the phone in the above mentioned post does do both sides of the fence, i do know it's a freakishly unusual oddity
i like freakish unusual oddities
i'm looking at the ability to use :
Consumer Cellular - No Contract Cell Phones with the Best Cell Phone Plans (gsm)
republic wireless - The Mobile Network that Runs on Freedom (wifi/cdma)
20 dollar a month plans, but the cellular signal is only for back up
mainly i'll be mooching off of the free wifi to make free phone calls
using a pre downloaded map like : Free WiFi hotspots wi-fi cafes coffee shops hotels wireless airports (what is wifi)
you can drive up to any hot spot, make your communication, and drive away
free

Verizon has a phone that does both CDMA and GSM, my buddy just got one it was expensive though.

Wait what? Since when does Verizon do GSM??? Well thats good to know, I always thought that was everyone's big problem with verizon.
I would highly recommend the Verizon Galaxy S3, Verizon has great LTE service and apparently they provide GSM although there are instructions online that tell you how to unlock it so if you're going out of the country you can just get a prepaid GSM sim and pop it in. I don't think the Droid 3 will work with either network you want as it is a verizon exclusive and I don't think it has a sim card.
Also unless you're using skype I'm almost positive you can't make a call over wifi, if you're on wifi it just uses you phone signal to make the call.
And what do you need CyanogenMod for? I'm not sure what privacy issues you're concerned about that CyanogenMod would fix.
root the droid, and you can then hack it to your delight, and you can use it with any cellphone service you want overcoming the chock hold **rizon has programed into it
cyanogen is to add the control and options i need, because **rizons refuses to sell anything good for the customer.
**rizon only sells what is good for **rizon
droid 3 does use a simcard,,it goes right next to the micro sd card slot ( capable of handling 32 gigs)
there are lots of wi-fi VOIP telephone apps available
did i miss anything?

Look at an app called Viber , it allows calls and texts over wifi... Viber - Free calls, Free text messages, photo and location sharing
Edit:
I forgot to say that both partys must have this app installed so no calling a land line!

So it isn't a privacy problem as you want GSM on a Verizon phone which is possible with just about any verizon android phone.
Just please don't get a moto phone, you'll get an impossibly locked bootloader.
Basically Skype only different XD
Nope, just get the Galaxy S3 it's much easier to mess with.
thats interesting,,i have no idea what that is,, but it sounds extremly helpful and valuable
I LOVE YOU!
but seriously
little tips like that save the day, and thats why im here with questions
now to just come up with the +300 the gs3 costs more than the d3,,,thats a hurtle

Yea no problem, I'm great with phones. I had a Moto Droid X, it had a looked bootloader which meant unless moto updated I was never going to get true ICS, let alone JellyBean. Just trust me you'll be so glad you saved up for the S3. Also since the S3 is practically brand new development is really hot where as the Droid 3 is nearing the end of it's life as it has already been replaced by the Droid 4. And one last tip try CyanogenMod then do yourself a favor and try AOKP and all the other roms, I'll make you a flashaholic in no time XD

Theres no GSM with the Verizion S3.
Samsung Galaxy S III I535 - Full phone specifications
As for the Droid 3, thats the XT860 and you are right, it has both, but only physically. Software wise it cannot connect. You will need root, you will need to install a custom radio so the gsm radio will work. However, the droid 3 does allow all that.

The XT860 has the radios, the GS3 that Verizon carries (i535) does not. If you could find a carrier with the same lte frequency, but that is it.

Or even the NA S3 will work if it is not the Verizon model, but he wants CDMA and GSM which is almost impossible to get.
