Default looking for good mp3 player

    not an ipod please!

I'm looking for a decent little mp3 player, it doesn't have to have massive capacity, it can be flash based. Any ideas where to start?

samsung yp-z4 (i think thats the model) does me. its 4gb, has a colour screen, 3d DNSE surround EQ (aswell as thier normal EQ's), can hold and display pictures and have them set as the wallpaper, and is a realy nice looking mp3 player with great sound quality.

if i can find a link ill give you it.

EDIT: you can also get a 2gb model.

FURTHER EDIT: ooops the model is yp-z5

i'm currently thinking of getting the SanDisk Sansa Clip.

Should also have mentioned that top of the list for me is sound quality, i just want to look at some other options before i buy.

well the one above is the only decent one iv had, but the sound quality is the best iv heared on an mp3 player. it is over a year old however, so there probably are better ones out there by now.

here's a link to a review, on the second page it talks about sound qaluity (but its in brief).
    http://www.trustedreviews.com/mp3/re...-MP3-Player/p1

SanDisk are a good company, you should get a good buy if you choose to go with them

Those are apparently really good, but at the price, they should be.

which models did you have say what?

I'd like a Cowan but they cost too much for my needs, i'd rather get a cheap laptop over them, which is a shame as they are meant to have the best sound quality.

    1) a zen Touch but i think those are discontinued because there bulky and don't have colored screens,

    2) a Zen MicroPhoto , its nice but its having linkup probs with my computer
And with this one you NEED to install the software that comes with it to put music and pictures on it
    What?

I'm about to get a Sansa E250 2GB. The selling points for me are that it has an SD slot to expand the memory, reviews say it has very good sound quality, and you can install RockBox on it (well the V1 model anyway).

For those wondering, Rockbox is like an OS for Mp3 players. It has a built in gameboy emulator, and there is a Doom 1 plugin that works great. You can also customize every little thing to your hearts content.

i second that. especially as your looking for sound quality and ipods have rubish high and low sound, it all ends up just as one flat middle pitch.

i conpletely agree but its great to run an 80g or 160g ipod in your car through a deck with a usb cable you get the full sound quality that way.

that's not exactly what most people use it for though, and other mp3 players must do this too, do they not?

Anyhow, i'm leaning towards the Cowon iAudio D2. From what i've read it has the best audio quality, a pretty decent screen, and the highest quality headphone out available (great for running large high end headphones). It does have it's flaws - the interface is nowhere near as good as an ipod (are any?) and it can only play vids encoded at 320x240. It's also more than i want to spend so i might just have to close my eyes and grab a Sansa clip before it's too late!
