I was going through their kits and I saw some really good priced ones, but wanted some opinions on performance. How do you think these guys would do against that new EK Predator coming out? Which kit/unit would you recommend?

$180 (Weaker Pump) Alphacool NexXxoS Cool Answer 360 LT/ST - Kit (40188) - Complete Watercooling Kits

    $240 Alphacool NexXxoS Cool Answer 360 DDC/XT - Kit (40192) - Complete Watercooling Kits

Here's a link to the EK unit. The 360 one is $240 as well.

Comparing those you've posted the EK Predator has better pump, rad and way better CPU block. Now what you really want and need depends of what you want to water cool... only CPU, or also CPU + GPU(s)+mofset... If its only CPU, go for Predator, if not go for custom loop, buying good CPU+GPU blocks (XSPC, EK, Swiftech), reservoir, pump (DC5 Swiftech), rads, tubes...

I think that answers my question, but am I right in assuming it sounds like you're saying Alphacool isn't known for their performance and even possibly their quality?

I never said that for Alphacool, they have some excellent rads (NexXxoS Monsta), I'm just saying, if you want to put under WC your CPU+GPU... the better choice is custom loop.
P.S. Choosing the brand name and manufacturer is the mater of personal preferences.

Ok, so let's give this scenario since this is specifically what I'd do. I would start out with only the CPU for a long time. I don't even think I can get blocks that work with my specific GPUs. Someday, however, I would want to go for GPU blocks, but it could literally be years from now. I can expand the EK unit so would it give me enough of a performance benefit that I'd get more overclocking headroom on my CPU alone? I think if the answer is yes, that would sell me on the EK predator. If I'm gonna end up with the same general overclock though, I'd prefer to have the more efficient expand ability.

In that case the Predator is an excellent choice, just buy one Res to add in, and you're ready to go. Any AIO (Corsair, CM, Swiftech, EK, etc... expendable or not), will give you more headroom for OC the CPU than common any air cooler (except those bulky and heavy ones as Noctua NH-D14/15 or similar).
