    Default Microsoft Support Chuckle

So I've been having this issue with Windows Update being able to install the new build on my system. Still stuck on 10240. I was gonna report it in Windows Feedback, but it didn't work. Gave the online chat a whirl. At first, I was legitimately fooled into thinking I had a helpful dude on the other end. But I started talking about chipsets and it went downhill from there. I honestly just got a laugh out of it and kinda made my morning worth it.

Hi, thanks for visiting Answer Desk! I'm Anthony N.

Hi, My name is Josh, and I'm enrolled in the insider program...good

I came here because I'm having an issue with windows update. I'm currently on build 10240 of windows 10 pro.

I can't get my computer to upgrade to the latest build, 10583? Hope I got that number right

Also tried to download the Windows 10565 build online to manually upgrade but the ISO keeps getting corrupted. Now I just thought of the fact that maybe Google Chrome has something to do with it so I'm gonna try edge for that.
    9:17 am
    Anthony N
As I understand you are using Windows 10 insider preview and you are trying to upgrade to full version of Windows10, right?
    9:18 am
    Me
No, it should be a full version. I was using the insider preview but once it released, I was able to update it and now it shows it
    9:19 am
    Me
    ...it shows it's activated
    9:19 am

I read online that I should have a watermark if my version was still the preview version

    I understand your concern.

I'm not trying to completely solve this right now either seeing as how everything is running smoothly, but I did want to report it and give system specs if need be. But if we do solve it, great!
    9:21 am
    Me
Oh, one more bit of info. I just got the ISO download started from the insider preview site. The download is nearly twice the time remaining as on Chrome. I think chrome might be corrupting the downloads from Microsoft sites for some reason. Could be so many combination of things too.
    9:23 am
    Anthony N
    Thank you for the patience.
    9:23 am
    Anthony N
Are you trying to download the windows updates?
    9:24 am
    Me
What would happen was, if I used Windows update, everytime the update process would freeze at the final point of updating settings at 4%
    9:24 am
    Me
I let it sit there like that for 6-8 hours twice.
    9:25 am
    Me
So I tried downloading the ISO file from the insider preview site, but each time the file would be corrupted, so I couldn't mount it to a USB or DVD media.
    9:25 am
    Me
But, I was using google chrome
    9:25 am
    Me
Right now I'm using edge browser to download the ISO file and it's showing about a 2.5 hour download, as compared to only a 1 hour one from chrome
    9:26 am
    Anthony N
Josh, as I checked with my resources, you shouldn't try to upgrade manually, but you need to wait for the build to upgrade automatically.
    9:26 am
    Me
Makes me think chrome had something to do with the corruption but I can't be sure until the other is finished.
    9:27 am
    Me
I know I SHOULD wait but I like getting in on the ground floor of the preivew builds anyways. Also, I keep my main system set up so that I don't have any major backups to do making clean installs easy. I just wondered if doing a build upgrade would work since it kept getting hung up on that 4% thing from windows update after the restart
    9:29 am
    Anthony N
I understand your concern but I would suggest you not to perform clean installation, as it will cause activation issue.
    9:30 am
    Me
What about upgrading from disk though? Can you upgrade from one build to the next using a disk which will avoid the clean install?
    9:30 am
    Me
I don't want to do a clean install honestly
    9:31 am
    Anthony N
Josh, it is recommended to follow the upgrade path and not to perform a clean installation which will cause activation issue.
    9:31 am
    Me
Ah don't worry about it. Point is, I have a bug issue on the update. I also am using an AMD 990fx chipset with AMD R9 290 GPUs in crossfire. I ALSO use a RAID0 with 2 SSDs. I'm wondering if any of this would be pertinent info for bug reporting. Like I said, I'm here because the Windows Feedback app isn't working as well.
    9:33 am
    Anthony N
I'm sorry but I do not have information regarding the chipset and we are not trained on the hardware.
    9:34 am
    Me
I'm beginning to think you're not fully understanding things I'm saying. If you want, you can try to escalate this to someone who might understand better, but at this point I'm just trying to help you guys out with some potential issues. Fixing my own system is what I do for fun.
    9:35 am
    Me
If you want a report of the bugs I'm having, you would have to either give me a website link to it (which I couldn't find myself), or fill in the report with the info I'm giving you. If not, I'm good. I'll get things figured out eventually on my own I don't mind going through the process. =D
    9:37 am
    Anthony N
I would suggest you to run the windows update troubleshooter and check for the services status and if it doesn't help, please feel free to contact us back.
    9:38 am
    Me
Lol. I know the service status. I manually restarted it a few times myself because the updater would get frozen at random points in the download. I'm pretty sure the 10240 build still has some bugs that are causing build updates to fail indefinitely. At this point, I'm mainly trying to help Microsoft out. If you don't want the info that's fine too. AMD FX chipsets don't have a ton of market share right now.

I'm 90% convinced you were talking to a Bot. The only problem with my theory is the grammar: "would suggest you to run", "may I have know email", "suggest you not to perform", etc. But the way the responses came back sure seemed like a Bot to me.... lol

I mean if it wasn't for the grammar, you could be talking to Siri (Cortana).

Interesting note, I was right all along. Google chrome was corrupting the ISO download, I needed to manually update to the 10565, then windows update was able to auto update to 10586 or whatever the latest one is. I should work for microsoft support!
