Why do people say GX2? Thought the name was GTX295?

    Thanks

I read that Nvidia will be showing off the new GX2 at CES in January, expect it to be on sale buy the end of January if not sooner. Once again, the GX2 is two Overclocked GTX 260s

Well, technically all GTX260, GTX260 Core 216, and GTX280 have 240 cores per GPU. However, only 192 are active on the GTX 260, 216 on the 216, and 240 on the GTX280.

The rumors on the net (as to how many active cores per GPU the GTX295 will have) are running rampant as usual. I just took a google and saw that the rumors account for anywhere from 240 to 480 cores and total ram from 878MB to 2GB. There has been no official confirmation the product exists, so no one is sure what the spec's are yet.

A new Nvidia product(s) is definitely in the works, I had a manufacturer tell me so about a month ago. BUT........he also said Nvidia isn't going to go all-new architecture because DX11 is on the way, and the manufacuring timing, etc doesn't make good business sense. So my guess is NV will revamp the existing architecture with a die shrink at least. And probably sandwich 2 260's together and call it a day to "beat" ATI, then focus on next fall and DX11
