Default Morris Cable LLC. aquistion of Mediacom Cable

Today I received a letter in the mail that on February 13, 2009, Morris Cable, LLC (doing business as Morris Broadband) has completed their acquisition of Mediacom Cable, and will be taking over as the provider for cable and broadband internet in affected areas.

So far, their plans include a multi-million dollar investment in the infrastructure of the cable system plant and operating facilities, upgrading the network to improve quality and more reliable service, adding additional services including more HD content, and extending the cable system into previously unserved areas. Plans also include upgrading local call centers, and creating more jobs in those call centers.

Also effective this month, "Morris Cable LLC has implemented a policy that provides for the termination in appropriate circumstances of subscribers to our broadband service who are repeat infringers of the copyright of others." This being their way to hopefully stop illegal acquisition of copyrighted material through P2P and torrent sites.

I don't know how many of our members have Mediacom cable and internet service, but I felt as though I should bring this to their attention, in case they have not recieved the same letter in the mail that I did.

It looks to me that it will be a good change.

The only reason it would be bad news is if you do a lot of "illegal" downloading. I will keep my opinions on that matter to myself.

Mediacom has got to the point where they really suck. My internet service, and sometimes cable tv, will go out for days at a time before they finally get around to fixing it. This has been getting more and more frequent here lately.

I guess I have been lucky. My 20MB internet connection has never went down in the 8 months I have had it.

Where do you get a 20mb connection, mine is just about 6 or 7mb? Of course, this is better than what they started me out with, 1 or 2 mb. 20mb would be awesome.

I pay around $85 for the 20MB service and basic cable. I don't know if they offer it in your area, I am in Hedersonville, NC. All I had to do was call the customer service line, and request the service. They checked to make sure that my modem supported the connection, and 30 minutes later I tested it out on speedtest.net.

I live in Etowah, NC, just down the road from you. I pay $105.00 for extended basic cable and my internet.

Like I said previously, all you need to do is call them up and ask if they have the 20MB service in your area. I don't know if Etowah has it or not. If you get it bundled with cable, its not that bad. If you keep your extended basic cable, it shouldn't raise your bill by more than $20 or so.
