      • This is a first step upgrade from an Athlon XP2500+ (Barton) system. I have finally been able to move into an AM2/ AM2+ b ased system that leaves plenty of upgrade room. This setup also runs incredibly cool. The max temperature I been able to get the CPU up to is 34C under full overclocked load. Upgrading the RAM, getting a 500gb SATA HD and finally upgrading the LE1640 to one the new 45W dual / triple core Athlon X cpu's.
    Thanks

    Default Welocome thread

Hi. My name is David. I'm 59 years old, and I live in Hamilton, Ontario, about three blocks from Summit Direct. My original homebuilt system was a Duron 800, but then after a lot of learning from forums like this I built a system using an MSI K7N2 Delta Ultra (400FS, running a Athlon 2500+ (Barton) and 2 x 1gb sticks of Kingston DDR 400 RAM. I was able to get the processor up to 2.2 ghz with stock cooling, but I had no upgrade path.
So last month I bit the bullet and repaced my mobo, cpu and RAM. Due to a shortage of $$ I had to be a bit creative. I managed to get an ECS6100PM-M2 mobo with an Athlon LE1640 oc'd to 3.0ghz. I am only using a 2gb stick of DDR667 RAM due to a local shortage of DDR800 RAM. I also upgraded my PSU to 450W and my GeForce FX5500 to a Radeon 2400 Pro (256mb DDR3 RAM.)
There's a lot to enjoy with my new rig, particularly the low power usage and the upgrade path to AM2/ AM2+ processors. Ill probably have to replace the mobo soon, tho' - overclocking is not it's strong suit!
    Looking forward to learning lots,
    david

Hello everyone! Ive been looking around for a few years on forums looking for good communities to learn from, and contribute to. I had a recent problem with a temp. free-bee computer while attempting a graphics card OC, and came across this forum.

I like the looks and feel of this community, so I created an account. I dont have much of a computer yet. I have four or five of them laying around the house, but they are all about 7-10 years old.
My father taught me a little about computers when the 386 and 486 was popular. That is pre-windows I do believe, lol. But the technical desire is still there. Ive been reading about computers ever since I was 13. Im 28 now... though Im not pro, nor do I know how to write programs. Consider me as a novice. I know my way around a computer, but Im challenged everyday by them.

I love computers, gaming, and I really enjoy making music on computers as well. Im a Dj, I love to snowboard, and I proudly served in the us Army.

I hope to stick around, learning as I go, and eventually purchase my dream computer.

Hi guys my name is Rob im 33 & from the UK, I have been messing around with pc's since i was about 15 and I am just about to replace my current pc which is a old p4 3Ghz running at 3.2Ghz with a more upto date pc as this one has a serious glitch and I can't be bothered to waste anymore time on it.

I hope to learn the fine art of overclocking as I haven't done it in years {hides face in shame}.

Hope to spend some long hours here reading up and trying to learn from you guys.

Hi Rob, Welcome to Pure OC!

You didn't mention what type of new system you were going to build, AMD or Intel ? If you go with Intel I suggest you start reading Deton's "Core i7 4GHz Club & Overclocking Guide" it's helped a lot of people.
