Default Valve wants to make the official Half-Life movie over Hollywood's heads

    Article at bigdownload.com

    Excerpted quote:
It's a known fact that good movie adaptations of PC and video games are almost non-existent. And that's why Valve has decided to turn down tons of requests from Hollywood movie studios over the years to make an official Half-Life movie. But here's the kicker; Valve may decide to make a movie adaptation of their first person shooter franchise themselves.

What about good games that turned into decent movies (Final Fantasy -> Spirits Within) or even semi decent to crappy game (Lara Croft: Tomb Raider) to a decent movie? Yes, I know that the metacritic.com and rottentomatoes.com scores for both these movies is in the dumps. And, yes, they were cheesy. But they had some merit to them unlike the vast majority of those adaptations.

If they make comic books into movies, then video games can be done as well. The trick is to do it RIGHT. Not campy, not cheesy. Edgy, story-driven, just like Half Life 2, which is my opinion, is arguably the best video game ever produced, and definitely the best story-driven one.

Think "Dark Knight" but inspired by a video game. That's what would make it successful. Anything else would be crap.
