    Behind The Scenes Of Skyrim

    http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/a...of-skyrim.aspx

On our recent visit to Bethesda Game Studios, Todd Howard (Skyrim's director) was kind enough to give us a full tour of their new office. The team is hard at work creating Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but there are still plenty of fun distractions within these hallowed halls, along with a number of glimpses at the new game. From behind-the-scenes design concepts to a map of Skyrim, there are lots of exciting details to pore over.

Check out the video at the bottom of this page to get your full access pass to the development studio that is creating this landmark new role-playing adventure.

    TES: Skyrim - Dragon Shouts

    http://www.gameinformer.com/b/featur...on-shouts.aspx

Many aspects of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will feel familiar to longtime fans. The exploration of a vast open world, first-person combat, and interacting systems of melee, magic, and stealth are all tent pole ideas within the franchise. However, Skyrim introduces something new into the gameplay mix: dragon shouts. This special new set of powers stand apart from the existing magic system, offering a broad range of powerful effects. The ability to attain these abilities is unique to your hero in the world, and the path to attaining them is a quest in itself within the larger tale that unfolds over the course of the game. Dragon shouts give the player the same overwhelming might that drives the resurgent dragon population, and the same source of power that launched the last line of emperors....

Game Informer has their next piece on Skyrim up: a look at the combat system.

    - Skyrim utitlises a 'two hands'-weapons system, where you get to choose what you hold in each hand.
    - You can now assign weapon combinations to hotkeys, allowing you to quickly switch from sword and shield to spells, for instance.
    - Combat is a lot more skill-based: blocking effectively can overpower your enemy, leaving him vulnerable to attack.
    - Finishing moves are used to convey the fact that you just actually killed someone/something, not hit him with a sword and knocked him out (like in Oblivion).
    - Perks are very much Fallout-styled: from increasing critical hit ratio to protection from spells. They're bound to certain skills, as well.
    - No backpedaling during combat the way you could do in Oblivion
    - Spell effects are inspired by Bioshock
    - Fire spells do the most damage, Shock spells drain magicka and Frost spells drain stamina and slow your opponent down
    - There are 'ward'-spells that function similarly to blocking
    - Bow and arrow is a lot more powerful
    - Arrows are a lot less omnipresent, however: no more backpacks filled with Daedric arrows
    - Daggers have been upgraded for stealth purposes, can now perform special stealth damage (backstabs, I reckon)
    - When NPC's see something (eg. you) moving in the shadows, they'll become more restless and alert, but not immediately full-on aggro like in Oblivion.

    Bethesda defends Skyrim classes axe

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim director Todd Howard has defended the decision to remove traditional character classes from the upcoming RPG.

Speaking during a Skyrim-focused GameInformer podcast, Howard called the decision to step away from what many RPG fans would consider an essential part of the role-playing experience, "really elegant".

According to Howard, whereas Oblivion invited players to switch their class after a few hours of play Skyrim opts for more natural system of development.

"What we found in Oblivion - you start the game, you pick your race and you play for a while. Our intent was: you played for a while, you got to figure out some skills, and then depending on how you play... one of the characters asks you 'okay, what kind of class do you want to be? Here's my recommendation based on how you've been playing'" said Howard.
