    Default Gamestop buys Impulse

"Whoa, whoa, whoa ... so GameStop purchased Stardock, Impulse's owner? Nope! "GameStop has acquired Impulse, Inc.," the official Stardock FAQ on the deal reads. "Impulse is a separate business unit from Stardock Entertainment." No layoffs are anticipated, staff stays with Impulse, customer service is still handled by Impulse (for now!), and the group is actually hiring.

The press release says that Impulse will offer "three specific components." First is the client, dubbed "Impulse::Client" here, which users can use to download games. Duh. Next is Impulse::Reactor, which "provides content publishers customer friendly DRM and copy protection tools. It also allows developers to enable achievements, account management, friend lists, chat, multiplayer lobbies, and cloud storage within their games." Last is Impulse::Publisher which gives pubs "real-time reporting and management tools.
    ""

Here is a post from Brad Wardell on the Stardock forums
"At some point, you have to decide what type of company you want to run. A technology company or a digital retailer? When Impulse became our #1 business unit, we knew it was time to find someone to partner with to take it to the next level. Someone who already was a retailer and understood the game industry. Someone who was interested in seeing the PC gaming market greatly expanded. Gamestop turned out to be the ideal partner."

Steam now has no competition, which is sad since Impulse was great.

Impulse Bashed by Competitor, Developer Yanking its Game
While that's the competition speaking about Impulse (GamersGate is a digital PC game seller, albeit one that doesn't rely on a client like Steam or Impulse), one developer that has been selling its game through the service decided it doesn't want to be in business with GameStop -- and will yank its game as a result. Blind Mind Studios announced last week that it intends to pull Star Ruler (pictured above) from Impulse due to the recent acquisition.

"Due to a rather large list of things we detest about GameStop, Star Ruler will no longer be available for purchase on Impulse after the takeover," a statement on the game's official website reads. "We are ending sales through Impulse due to GameStop's long, negative behavior toward the PC platform and independent games. We would never have signed onto distribution through GameStop, and being forced into this situation has only made it worse for us. We feel GameStop cannot serve as the leader of a true competitor in the digital distribution market."
