Default Modern Warfare 3 engine adds a lot of cool stuff

Modern Warfare 3 developer Infinity Ward has said that the game's engine features plenty of improvements over MW2's.

Bowling told us in May: "... We never - for any game - build a 'brand new' engine, but iterate on a solid base... adding what's needed and innovates it."

Battlefield-like environmental destruction is rumoured to feature in Modern Warfare 3.

LOL! good lord. I seriously doubt they can do much more with a quake 3 engine. Battlefield 3 level destruction would be IMPOSSIBLE since they claimed to lock the console framerate at 60

402 (aka Robert Bowling) is trying to put good spin on this. I've mapped for Call of Duty, and you are correct Nyarlathotep, it's still the same basic Quake engine. Bowling essentially admits this in his quote because he said it's the same engine. What this means is they absolutely CANNOT change the nature of the engine without going to a new engine, which he said is not happening.

So what does this spin therefore logically mean? It means they're adding visual tricks while keeping the same tired, old engine. And I know how they'll do it because I've done it before too when I used to create maps. They're going to create a whole bunch of new models that can "destruct" when triggered by an impact.

The engine absolutely CANNOT do destructible environments, so they're gonna try to fake it with some exploding models.

    Lame.

DICE's Frostbite 2 engine is the shiz. Everyone knows it. Battlefield is representative of tech moving forward, rather than being stuck in the past like Modern Warfare 3.

BF3 is where it's at, end of story. Nice try Infinity Ward, PC gamers will see through your spin and never forgive you for stabbing us in the back with MW2.

No more to see here, move along.

We all have. CoD4:MW, CoD:MW2, and CoD:BO. Same engine, same formula, same gameplay. Different models and maps.
