Default Infinity Ward Founders Suing Activision Over Unpaid Royalties

    http://kotaku.com/5485295/infinity-w...u/full+(Kotaku)

Jason West and Vince Zampella, the men at the centre of this week's drama at Call of Duty developers Infinity Ward, have filed suit against Activision over claims they are owed "substantial royalty payments".

"Activision has refused to honor the terms of its agreements and is intentionally flouting the fundamental public policy of this State (California) that employers must pay their employees what they have rightfully earned," said the pair's attorney, Robert Schwartz, of law firm O'Melveny & Myers. "Instead of thanking, lauding, or just plain paying Jason and Vince for giving Activision the most successful entertainment product ever offered to the public, last month Activision hired lawyers to conduct a pretextual 'investigation' into unstated and unsubstantiated charges of 'insubordination' and 'breach of fiduciary duty,' which then became the grounds for their termination on Monday, March 1st."
Does this mean less Call of Duty games...

Is this a case of karma and poetic justice for Activision and Infinity Ward screwing over PC gamers with Modern Warfare 2???

Ex-Infinity Ward heads asking for $36 million in suit

Jason West and Vince Zampella alleging publisher trumped up HR charges, conducted "Orwellian" investigation in order to avoid paying royalties, giving it control over Modern Warfare franchise.

The basics of Jason West and Vince Zampella's lawsuit against their former employer Activision were laid out in a press release from their legal representation this morning, but the announcement lacked some colorful details from the actual court filing. The developers' attorneys have provided GameSpot with a copy of the suit, which paints a more fleshed-out picture of Activision's alleged misdeeds.

I remember watching a documentary about video games a few years ago that talked about a lot about the history of them.

One of the things I remembered was how Activision was born basically. Game programmers for Atari, I believe, were generally told that they "were no more important to that game then the people who are on the assembly line" or something close to that. As a result, some of the people left and formed Activision. Their main purpose was to CREDIT the programmer with the game so when people bought it, the consumer knew who made that very game they are about to enjoy. The programmer would now have HIS name on the game for everyone to see.

After reading this article, I was immediately reminded of that documentary. Granted, this situation is a bit different, it all is the same. It goes to show you that in ANY industry, the bigger you become, the more greedy you become.

Considering the amount of money they made on this game $36 million is not much at all, they should be glad that's all their asking for and pay them.
