    Default My first build

Somehow or another I got this wild idea I could build a PC and save a few dollars. The next thing I know, a friend is giving me a shopping list to meet my budget and I'm ordering it off Newegg. All the parts will be here today and I am as excited as a kid at Christmas. Except for the sudden realization I may be in over my head. Anyways, I read the sticky thread on How to build a PC for dummies. Great thread, it definitely gives me some reassurrance that I can do it. Components listed below, I'd appreciate any advice, thoughts , opinions. Thanks in advance.

I got Windows 7, a basic keyboard and a logitech MX518 gaming mouse also. I realized after I ordered for a few dollars more I could of gotten the 1GB model. I'm hoping this one will do for now and then possibly add the second as needed. I play Left 4 Dead's and Counter strike and I'm hoping my FPS greatly increase compared to my old 2.0 GHZ dual core with a XFX radeon 4350 video card.

    First, welcome to PureOC!

Second, some excellent choices there with your build.

Third, the 768MB version of that GTX 460 will do fine. It will utterly CRUSH your old 4350 around the block and back again, so no worries.

Fourth, be prepared for a whole new level of gaming goodness when you fire that baby up!

Lastly, we're here to help. Building your first PC can be a bit daunting but we have some very seasoned veterans here so we can definitely help you out, not to worry!

    Hey there, welcome Gutterput

Nice setup you are putting together.

You might want to take a look at another CPU Cooler; we will be publishing a review of the Xigmatek Aegir cooler and it is really impressive on our testing.

Got PC up and running. Wiring was a nightmare for me, took me forever to double and triple check all my connections. Ran prime 95 ,all passed and the core temps ranged from 40-50 C during test. Any other things I should look at to verify I didn't mess anything up?

Run FurMark to test your graphics card. Run the stability test on it, let it run about 15 minutes. Beyond that, sounds like you've done a great job!

    Next up, OVERCLOCKING!!!

Be sure to fill in your system specs in your user control panel here in case you need help.
