    Default Headset Advice

    Hey guys,

I'm stuck with a little dilemma here. I have little next to no audio knowledge. I posted a previous thread on which headset I should get but the time wasn't right and now I have a little extra money to spend. I don't want to spend more than 50ish give or take. I have a Xonar DS audio card and was wondering what would be a good headset for me?

This headset would be used much more than usual since I'm in a dorm (blasting my Swans occasionally would be nice though.) I was looking at the Corsair HS1A since it is on sale for $59.99 at Best Buy. I've heard it's got problems with the mic and the lacking bass, I'd like someone to chime in on this. I don't need SUPERIOR quality, just some nice ones that will last me a long time.

Those Sennheiser cans are awesome but they're far more expensive than $50 though.

I tested the Corsair headset, and still use it as my secondary set of cans. LOVE IT. The Xonar DS is a good value audio card, and you can definitely adjust the bass, so no worries there. Never had an issue with the mic, so I don't think you'll have any problems. ONLY drawback is you might get a bit sweaty with the cloth pads on the earcups.

Otherwise, you won't beat the Corsair for that price, I'd jump on that deal right away.

Thanks Skyguy, I will be getting it sometime this week! I read your review on it and I think I will be getting it.
I really wish I had cash laying around for Sennheisers, the PC333D looks so nice.

For future reference, are Sennheisers one of the best headset manufacturers?

Generally speaking, yes. Wide selection, excellent audio quality for most of their products. There are few really good, inexpensive products by Sennheiser but most cost a good chunk of change. You get what you pay for though. Finding inexpensive, quality cans is always a challenge. I've had a couple Senny headsets and have been very impressed.

That said, I'm a bass whore so I'm rocking a set of Beyer Dynamics DT 770. Headphones, not a headset, so I ghetto-rigged a Sennheiser mic to create a Skyguy special headset. Best of both worlds. Love these BD cans, just killer.

Thanks again Skyguy. So, I ended up ordering the HS1 but I will be returning them...cause I got a deal on the Sennheisers I wanted! The PC333D sounds GREAT. I LOVE the 7.1 in gaming and 5.1 for my music. I love them! I can now blast my Swan M10s when I'm gaming and my roomie isn't around, but when he is I can put on my Sennheisers and still enjoy great quality sound

Hey! I was surprised myself! But thank you. I had gone to the store to get zipties to tie up for my ethernet cable. I got curious and cruised the PC section to see if I could find the HS1 in person, and well that was a bad idea as you can see :P (on the wallet at least)
