Gainward 7900GT GS is 265 at OCUK
if you don't get the Connect3D X1900 XT for 276 i'm gonna you, lol. Then again you're not in the UK so i don't know how the prices are for you locally.

I really cannot comment on the memory yet, DDR2 is totally new to me, but i'll be testing a lot of it soon. I'd want something a bit more meaty than that if i were going to overclock, but some of this DDR2 stuff is real pricy.

The 4000+ looks good to me considering Opterons are not yet available for AM2.

well james , i really did tons of researches early and find out that :
some games r good with nvidia and some r with ati ,
    but :
the 7900gt 512 ( which i will make it a 7900gtx ) will run cooler , quieter , and will make less noise and also :
In SLI vs Crossfire mode , the crown is with nvidia in most games , and also NF5 with AM2 is better than XPRESS 3200 , (firingsquad.com)
another reason : x1900 series need a crossfire edition card , but nvidia doesnt

how do the two correlate? A VGA cooler will keep your video card cool and a powerfull PSU will be able to handle more power, usually with tight regulation, its not really one or the other.

If the Gainward 7900 GT GS behaves like other 7900 GT's it will not have a fan controller onboard and therefore be very noisy. Temps of stock 7900 GT's are very low (as noted in the X1900 GT review), but who knows if gainward have change the volts? (unlikely) The main reason to get a VGA cooler for this card would be to sort out the noise, imo.

Watercooling, well that depends on how far you want to overclock. You will always get your CPU further on water, but for GPU's it's wasted unless you are prepared to raise the voltage, generally speaking.

well , if i want to make 7900 gt 512 like a gtx 512 , do i need to change voltage or cooling ?
    how about x2 4000 @ 2.8 ? does this need water cooling ?

it's impossible to say. If you get a poor overclocker (4000+) you might need better cooling and slightly higher voltages, but if you get a good clocker you may get 2.8GHz with low volts on air. It's all pot luck.

As for the 7900GT overclocking, i have no idea what people are getting with them, but i do know that a lot of the factory overclocked cards are failing at the moment.

I didn't mean the 4000+ is a poor overclocker, i just meant to make clear i was talking about the CPU and not GPU with that sentace, my bad!

What i meant is, it's luck of the draw... you could buy ten X2 4000+ CPU's and 5 run at 2.8GHz with 1.5v on air, the other five might not even do 2.8GHz at any voltage on water, you just don't know what you're getting really, so to answer whether you need watercooling to reach 2.8GHz, it depends on how good a clocker your CPU is.

I think you've already picked a good one with the 4000+, you get 2x1MB cache as you know, its the best low cost X2 there is. I've ordered a 3200+ myself, but that's because i want to wait until Opteron's are released on AM2, plus i'm 100% going Conroe, just need a fair few rigs to keep this site going.

well , dont be so sure about conroe performance , i know manu r saying it is good , and also hexus tested it , but there r some who say NO , they maybe r wrong but for 1% they r not wrong , and also amd's k8 (quad core ) will come against the conroe , again , amd is making a super chip , i think it is fx 64 or 69 to fight conroe now ,
I realy hope that the reviews r correct and conroe is good
thanx for all the help , i will let u know when i got my rig

got any links to what AMD are planning to combat Conroe with? i thought AM2 was pretty much it! Quad core's, that will be great when we actually get multi threaded apps but i can't see how it will do anything for us gamers today, last i heard was that quad-core was scheduled for 2007.

Trust me, Conroe really is going to be special. The only question mark revolving around it right now is how overclockable are the lower end models, and we won't know this until they hit retail.
