Default New Rig - Final List

Pulling the trigger here shortly! Im excited. Any comments or suggestions appreciated as always

    Case: Coolermaster HAF XM

    CPU: Ivy i5 3570k

Cooling: Asetek 570LX - should be in from Stan this or next week. Going to put everything together/install windows/etc on stock intel air cooler, and install the 570LX/overclock after it arrives and is water tested.
Going to put 4 Cougar fans on it push/pull

    Mobo: Asus P8V77-Deluxe

    Memory: G Skill Ripjaw Z Series 4 x 4GB DDR3 2133
    16GB Ram RAWR rofl

    GPU: XFX-FX-797A-TNBC-Radeon HD 7970 Black Edition 3GB
I would REALLY prefer a 680 or one of the newer 690's, but Im not waiting another month or more so this is the next best thing I guess. Its the ONLY piece of hardware I am compromising on

PSU: Corsair Professional Series Gold AX850 (CMPSU-850AX)

    Storage: OCZ Vertex 4 VTX4-255SAT3 512GB SSD
This is the only piece of hardware other than the GPU im semi "meh" about....only because of my storage device/SSD ignorance, but it reviewed well and comes recommended

    OS: Win 7 Pro x64

    Display:
    Keeping my Hanns-G 28" 1920x1200 (for now)

Still deciding on a fan controller.....cant seem to pin one down that I really like.

This thing should be a BEAST and is a ridiculously huge uprgade from my current E8300/285GTX setup.

    Any snafu's or red flags?

Any and all input appreciated TY
My setup back in the day! Hopefully Ill get back to there soon!

Nice build. For fan controller, take a look at the NZXT Sentry Mix.

I have that exact 7970. You will like it and I wouldn't say it is a compromise. It is very fast.

If you could hold on a week, I will have preliminary benhmarks on SandyBridge vs. IvyBridge. The Ivy chips are very hot and the GFlops do not look any better than Sandy but we will have a few Gaming, real world and Synthetic benchies by Friday.

Why would I go x58 when Z77 and other newer chipsets are available? Can you elaborate?

FWIW, the price is secondary for me. I want performance and the $$$ is not an issue

Yea Im so on the fence. Prob going to hold off for next week, and after thinking long and hard I think Im going to get an i5-2500k no matter what. Ivy is brand spanking new, and getting a well known GOOD performer is prob a smarter decision for me.
My setup back in the day! Hopefully Ill get back to there soon!

    Fan Controller

Out of stock today, but worth waiting for, or searching the web for.
Looks good with CoolerMaster cases too.
It has selectable PWM (pulse width modulation) fan control for all of the six fan ports.
Just connect it to a PWM port on your motherboard and all of it's fans will be controlled that way.
Any of the ports can be taken off of PWM control and the speed control dial used instead.
6-Channels and 30w per channel means that you can double up on the 6 ports to control 12 fans, with the proper connectors.

    I like mine.

    Another one

Never said X58. SandyBridge E (X79) would be a better choice IMO.

You didnt say x58, but killjoy did and I wonder why. Am I missing something about x58 vs Z77?

No,...he probably didn't know that you've already decided on a platform.
While the X58 was great in it's day, buying into it now means that you're buying older technology. High performing, but old.
