Recommendations for PC Build (music recording/video editing)

So one of my troops deployed with me currently wants me to teach him how to build his first computer. I asked him what the purposed of his computer was for: he records his own music and does video editing. His budget is going to be around $1500-$2000 max. We're not going W/C, but I will be going aftermarket cooling and doing a slight O/C. So, I'm here to ask someone else's opionion (anyone who currently does video editing) what are a few good cpu/gpu combos out there?

Before I make some recommendations, there are a few questions I need to ask first:

1. What type of video editing? Just editing some family vids, more high end editing for production, rendering scenes via 3dsMax/Maya/Blender?
2. For the music, does he actually record the music via instruments (meaning he would need midi hookups), or just use software like Reason/Frooty Loops?

The questions above, but most of all, Intel, Intel, Intel. The quick sync thing has sped up my transcodes a lot. Not sure though if any video editing sw supports it.

I think I'm going to set him up with an i5 when we get back. He splices music into the videos using Corel Video Studio Pro. So nothing too intensive.

Actually, He might be buying my PC (with maybe and upgrade to an 8350). If he does then this will pay for my WC set up for my build when I get home. What I'm currently looking at buying for myself is:

i7 3770K
MSI R7950 twin frozr 3gd5/OC x2
SeaSonix x-1250
G.Skill 16Gbts (2x8) 1600 snipers
Kingston HyperX 3k 240 Gb x 2 in Raid 0
1 Tb 7200 Rpm HHD for storage

The CPU and GPUs will be on watercooling.

Decided to update this post since it's been a while. Now that I only a few more months left till I'll be back in the states. I've bought a few goodies that are in packages waiting for me. 8350, CL Sound Blaster Zx, HD555... so I'll be keeping my comp and building a desk and hopefully watercooling it.

So he records his own music with actual instraments but he hasn't told me wait program he's going to use for vid editing. With that said, since the 83xx series have been out for a while now, cost per performance, would that be a good enough cpu to build his computer with or should I still go intel. Mind you the only game he plays is minesweeper, lol.

The 8350 really shines with multi-threaded apps so I would be great for music and video editing and rendering.
