    hey i am trying to do a qucik format on a 2 tb external hard drive that was full how long should this take its been going now for 20 mins and it hasent moved... i checked the lights on the hard drive and they are flashing

    Just go to admin tools, then computer management, then select "storage".
    Use that to delete the partition. Make a new partition, and format that.

    Depends on how you are formatting the drive it will take a while. Should have used Disk managment in windows 7. Would have been done in 2 minutes. Sometimes Ill start the windows 7 installation disk just to format large drives. It doesnt really format it. Just makes it look like it so you can use it like a blank drive.
