    Default EVGA vs ASUS

So I am an EVGA fanboy for most part. I have an EVGA mobo and GPU. I just had a huge problem with EVGA that took close to teo months to fix, and my system was down for those 2 months. They did right by me in the end and gave me a generous upgrade. Latley I have been eyeballing ASUS GPU's and possible future mobo upgrades as well. So my question is, What is the difference between an EVGA board and an ASUS board? and who do you like better?

Depends. I've had good experience with Asus. They cross-shipped an RMA for me, and that always impresses. On the other hand, I've never had an issue with my EVGA boards.

But brand doesn't matter as much as feature set, to me. I'm not going to limit my options just because my favourite manufacturer doesn't make a product with a feature I want.
For GPUs, the first thing I look at is waterblock availability. I don't buy cards with asshat-fandangled air coolers on them, because I'm just going to rip them off anyway. When that factor is negated, selection gets simpler. Then it's just performance, warranty, and price.
For motherboards it depends on the specific build. If multiple candidates exist, then it's VRM phases, layout, colour scheme, reliability.

For the record I hate Gigabyte boards. Nothing but bad luck here.

    Default Re: EVGA vs ASUS

I've never owned a Evga board, however I have quite a few ASUS boards and never had any problems with them until recently. After spending a few hundred dollars on a X79 board (Asus P9X79 Pro) I ended up getting one that won't post correctly. I sent it in for RMA and all they did was flash the bios and returned it to me. well I could have done that myself if it was that simple. It was a waste of my $20.00 to ship it to them, But I am still having the same issues with it. While it post, I am constantly getting errors during boot up. I finally got fed up with it and sent it in again for another RMA, I decided not to use the board once it returns and I am going to sell it.

I know its not my other hardware since I am using the same hardware on a system I have set-up and no issues. While Asus is still a great brand, sometimes its a hit or miss.. With everything being mass produced now a days you just never know.
I ended up selling the 3820 I had and just kept the money and will put it towards something else later. When the board arrives, it is going straight to ebay. They are suppose to be sending me a NEW replacement, so we'll see what happens.

However is there a reason why you are focus on just these 2 brands?
There are allot of other brands out there can perform great.

ASRock is one and so is MSI.

I've always had good luck with Asus boards. I have two right now and just recently sold another one to a friend of mine. They are all going strong. I also have a Gigabyte board, but I'm not that impressed with it. It's an okay board but isn't nearly as stable for overclocking as my Asus boards. I've never owned an ASRock board, but would love to give them a try.

Well EVGA has always been at the top of food chain for both mobo's and GPU's and Asus was the other high end manufacturer, and all this is base solely off my opinion and may be totally wrong so feel free to correct me. MSi and Gigabyte meh I honestly don't like the looks of their hardware and I can not speak about the quality because I have never owned any, but a friend has an Msi mobo and gpu and loves them both. Asus stuff just look like quality.

IC, I can understand the preference as I have my own also.
In the past I never really used MSI for mobo and decided to give it a first hand try with my Z77 board and I have to say I was impressed. Esp if you look at the newer models. ASRock has really made allot of improvements with feature set and quality of the boards. They have really come a long way. The reason I speak of these brands is based on my experience with them and would recommend someone that hasn't tried them to give it a second look. You might be surprised.

For MSI - Look at the MSI Z77 M power or the ASRock Z77 OC Formula.

While Asus is still on the top of my list, this last experience left a little bit of a sour taste in my mouth.
I own both MSI and Asrock boards and they have been great. Infact my Review Test bench uses a ASRock Mobo and my AMD test bench is a ASUS board.

I have only had one Asus board that I can remember and the chipset burnen out on it because of the lame mounting of the heatsink. This was a while ago so I wont hold it against them now. Never had an EVGA but I have heard nothing but praise for the Highend boards they make. See them used for extreme OC and Benching often. Must be doing something right.

MSi and Asrock higher end boards are pretty good. The mid range and lower end boards are not very good at all. I am using an ASrock board now and it is a nice performer. I also did the Satin Dragon with an ASrock fatal1ty Z77 Professional board. What a fantastic board.

    Default Re: EVGA vs ASUS

I use ASRock Mainboards and they all seem to work fine for me. I have ASUS boards too and they're great.
The only bad Mainboard that I've had recently was a Sapphire 990FX Pure Black. But they make really good Video cards,...........

    Default Re: EVGA vs ASUS

they did upgrade me from an X58 3x SLI board to a Classified3 board for all my problems, which I think is plain awesome. I had to go with out a pc for two months to get it and take apart adn reload my os 3 different times and diag their failed hardware. i did have one tech rep at EVGA that was a douche and one that was awesome. I think i am just trying to justify upgrading my mobo and chip with Asus gear. I have more important upgrades needed right now though, most importantly my GPU. I think wiht water and the right oc I don't see why my I7 and X58 cant keep happy for another year or so.
