Yea isn't it basically a complete sata external plug?

I assumed he was posting this from this computer but still good for clarification and he could be using a PS/2 port.

Matt, check to see if int he BIOS there is something you might have turned off for the USB 2.0 headers on the motherboard.

Yeah, front ESata connectors are plugged into one of your SATA ports.

To Matt, I would check the BIOS setting like Kenny says, and then troubleshoot the connector itself.
Is there a bent pin inside of it? (flashlight and magnifier required to check) Inside, it should be smooth without any of the flat pins sticking out.

If that's good then take the fron panel off and check for defects underneath the plug.

I would imagine it would be a mobo issue if its picking it up and but not recognizing what it is or possibly the data wires on the USB are backwards

Probably not the motherboard. Pin-out is wrong or wires are undone inside the case.

Why don't you post a Pic of your actual connection for us Matt? (a pic is worth a thousand words)

How about the USB 2.0 ports on the Motherboard's Backplate? Do they work? If so, this points to the plug itself and it's wires. Then you would take the case front off and look for problems behind the plug.
Will pull the front when I get home, will post in a few

I don't think it would pick it up at all if wires were totally disconnected

One wire off could do just that.

Here is the Pin-Out diagram for 2.0 USB the two "D" wires are for DATA transfer. The other two are power + and - wires.

I disagree, like all electrical connections a positive source and negative source are required for any power to be transmitted therefore without one data pin it would not get any signal throughput whatsoever. I suppose if the usb connector is one row he could have put it in backwards.

    It's not an electrical connection (power) on pins 3, 4, 5, and 6. It's a DATA connection.
D+ could be sending DATA to the system for device detection to attempt, but have no return signal (D-) causing the system's OS to call an error. Let's wait for picks and further investigation.

That plug can't be put in the wrong way. This is getting to be weird. Debris inside of the case's connector?

This is your board's Pin-Out for thos plugs according to the manual for your board. They match the industry standard as I thought they would.
At this point I am stumped. It should be working.

Kenny, if it was disabled in the bios, would it not read at all?? cause it would be disabled as in does not exist? not just showing an error?

I did not unplug the Front Panel one at all, did push on it, to make sure it was secure, cause i think it all started when i replaced my front fan's, don't see either of the wires are pulled or anything.
