Default Computer Freezing and Temp Question

Not sure if this is the right section but long story short, my computer is now freezing when I play my game. I've reverted everything back to OEM defauts (from my attempts at OC'ing) yet it still does it.

Today when it froze, I immediately powered it back on and check the temps. Do any of these seem too hot?

    CPU ........ 49 C
    MotherBoard ....... 38 C
    Mem Host Controller .... 64 C
    GPU ...... 50 - 55 C (with < 60% Load)

Oh... I have an i7-950 running on Asus Sabertooth X58 board with Radeon HD 6850 card if that makes a difference.

Those temps at Idle are running a bit on the hotter side of things. I wonder what the temps are at when your gaming.

When is the last time when you replaced your Thermal paste?

That dude with the random letters and numbers is on track with what I'm thinking. Thermal paste can cause that kind of behavior. Replace paste. Make sure all fans and heatsink is clear of dust too. Run realtemps or coretemp while running prime95. Let us know what final temp was before it locked up or shutdown.

Regular PC maintenance. Like they (random letters/numbers dude and Cyber), said, check and change the thermal paste on your CPU and GPU.

    Always look beyond the limits...

Those older X58 sockets are also prone to having performace problems when you don't get the heatsink seated properly.
Overtightening CPU heatsinks on that platform causes issues too.
You're using the stock cooler so that may not be the issue you're having.

If you powered off to check your temps then they were not your gaming temps. Run Prime95 and monitor the temps to be sure.
