Default Asus Xonar Essence STX Distortion?

So I got new headphones for christmas and decided it'd be best a get a soundcard with an amp for them and they sound great together but it seems that if theres too much base the soundcard starts distorting on the left side. It sounds like the driver is bottoming out but I don't think it is because while I can reproduce the sound using my phone it comes through on both sides and changes with the volume. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar issue or knows how to fix it, thanks in advance

Its called Clipping. Check this out for a detailed explanation and possible ways to correct it. How to Prevent Audio Distortion

Used to battle this when I did car audio.

Actually I just remembered I can switch the wires going to each ear, its definitely the driver... Maybe I'll if I can get in or I'll just send them back to sennheiser and see what they do with it, thats probably the better option.

That blows! Yeah I would try to get them replaced before I start screwing around inside first. Hope you get them RMA and replaced.

Try setting the gain down one notch (or two). Click the "HP Advance Setting" and drop it from Extra High to High, or High to Normal; S.O.L. if already at Normal.

Yep, I have one of those cards. Really nice.

P.S. You're supposed to *wear* those headphones, not place them two feet in front of you and crank up the volume 'till you can hear them like desktop speakers!!!

Yea in normal it doesn't do it but in normal there's simply no bass whatsoever lol

It is quite a nice card but I hate the 90s driver ui lol

But but I don't have speakers lol jk

I sent an email to Sennheiser about it, waiting to hear back.
