Default CPU Fans not always starting

I've been pretty MIA lately, but this new problem has me stumped.

I'm running an ASUS P8z77 mobo. Lately I have been having this problem about 50% of the time. When I turn on my machine from sleep or power off state, the CPU fans don't always start. Cooler is Phanteks PH-TC14. ASUS setting for the CPU is set to "Standard" in AI Suite.

If I give the fan blades a "nudge" they start and stay spinning. Most of the times a power cycle will also get them going.

Is this a power issue maybe not getting enough at startup? Not sure how to remedy this. And nothing in my system has changed for months.

Any tips or things to check out? Thanks.

Have you tried different fans plugged into that fan header? Like switch a case fan to that spot and the cpu fans to another header. It sounds like the bearings in your fans are taking a crap on you but it could be a power related issue. Switching the fans will give you a good idea of what is going on. If they do the same thing then it is a board related issue. If not then it is those fans.

I haven't gotten around to switching fans, truth be told I've been busy as hell between work and prepping for an 85 mile hike in a few weeks.

But I'll definitely give it a shot when I have a bit more free time. I'll be real irritated if it turns out to be the fans, both are acting up, they are probably only a year old. Maybe not even that old, I can't find my receipts, or remember I bought it. I had so many parts coming from different places.

Just found it in my Amazon orders, order placed Sept 24th 2013, that should still be under warranty.
