    Default Brand New Screaming PSU

I just received my new Corsair HX850 in the mail yesterday. My old PSU had recently died. When I finally got everything plugged in and turned it on, it started to emit a high pitched screaming sound. I double checked that everything is plugged in as it should be and I can't find any problems. I've heard of this happening to PSUs under high load, but never at boot. I'm afraid that it may just be a bad unit.

    Any suggestions?

I have a suggestion.....box it up, return it and and get an EVGA 850 G2. Better PSU, much better cables, better warranty, better customer support and less money. Also happens to be a rebate on it right now. You have a CWT with bad caps (huge surprise! ).

And FWIW, I Agree as well. This is not a terribly unusual problem with some of the more efficient (Gold and Platinum) PSU's. I've seen similar reports on Early Sesonic Platinum XP2 series supplies as well. Likely a production batch issue with a poor batch of components as Ciarlatano pointed out.

And that EVGA is a killer deal too, so think of this as Opportunity to Upgrade! Albeit a little delayed...

Yeah, I was hoping to avoid shipping it back and waiting for another one to ship. I've already been without my gaming rig for over a month. But that EVGA does look like a sweet deal.

Anything that screams like that needs to be disconnected instantly. Boxed up and returned. Sorry you have to wait a few more days but if you continue to screw with that thing you may end up losing the entire rig. Not a good option for you. Suck it up and do it. Will be for the better. Corsair gets a lot of hype because it is a well known brand due to smart marketing on their part, not because they are the best at anything they do. Not saying they suck, just that there are better options.

I liked the pretty ship... It made me feel as though I could trust it. Now I'm drowning and yet I still have the urge to buy a pretty little sailboat again. Huh... Weird
