    Default USB Drivers

After doing some other things with my system, I'm getting back to installing my ssd. I recently got some new speakers, Logitech's Z623. After putting them in, I noticed that my LCDsysinfo screen was off. I checked the usual suspects and found nothing out of order. Figured I would mess with it later. Now, I have a couple of drivers for my 840 EVO on a usb thumbdrive. Plugged it in, nothing, checked all slots front and back, nothing. Checked device manager, drivers, all good. My keyboard, mouse, printer work fine. So, what do I go from here?

Plug it into the back of the PC. Directly into the mainboard's ports.

Yup, already did that, same result. Like I mentioned, keyboard, mouse, printer, no prob. Just in case, plugged into my son's comp, picked it up straight away.

Try to unplug the Logitech's Z623, to see if there is any change.

    Always look beyond the limits...

Check your BIOS settings to see if legacy support is turned on in USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 settings.
Enable any features that are turned off.

Make sure that nothing else (non-USB devices) is plugged into your motherboard's internal USB headers.

Legacy support is on, unplugging speakers had no change. I dug up a few other usb sticks with no change there. Found the problem with my LCDsysinfo screen though. I changed one micro usb for another, jic, and the socket came out with the cable. I was about re-installing the usb drivers. How would go about that?

Go into: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System,.............then select "device manager" on the left.Find your USB drivers and right click on them. Choose to uninstall them. Reboot the PC, and the system will prompt for new devices and install the drivers. (USB 2.0 only)

An alternate method is to go to the Mainboard maker's web page for your motherboard and D/L the latest drivers for the board. (USB 3.0 drivers)

Well, tried that and no change. Is it possible for a failing sound card to cause this kind of trouble? One thing that keeps coming up when I mess with my system is the sound gets "lost". It won't recognize my sound card. Sometimes I have to re-seat it, other times I have move the plugs around and restart the system before it recognizes the Creative drivers. This has been going on for about a year now.

Take the sound card out and see what happens,............try a few on/off cycles after it's gone too.

Well, pulled the card as suggested and whether the sound card is a part of the problem or not, it's clear that it needs to be replaced. The sound quality isn't too much different from the mobo. I've had this card so long I forgot when I bought it. Got curious, plugged in our scanner and was able to scan a document no problem, so I tried to use an external drive I keep for backup storage. It's USB 2.0 and powered, so I thought it had a better chance of working, yeah, not quite. It just doesn't want to do storage through the USB ports.

Something to add here, I had done some overclocking recently and thought maybe I might have done something wrong so I went back to "Optimized Defaults". When I restarted, I checked to be sure all was normal and while I was there I plugged the stick in and it lit up just fine, so, checked it after booting up and ... nothing.
