Default Fresh Install - Now What?

Long story short, I need to do a fresh install of my system due to a slowing of general performance and some USB issues. I posted a thread a couple slots down from this one and from then till now usb still won't work for storage. I figured I'll have to do a new install sooner than later any way, so here I am. The basics I got, but I haven't put in my ssd yet due to some previous issues. I'll be starting with my win7 pro, but I'm thinking about moving up to win10. Would it be better to install the ssd before or after upgrading to win10? My new hdd is a WD Black 1TB 64mb. I want to make sure everything is set up right from the beginning, so I can finish upgrading my daughters system for her b-day which is a month from now.

As odd as this sounds.....do the Win 10 upgrade now so it is registered on the machine (or the machine is registered w/ MS...however that works). Get your key using one of the key readers just in case (Windows 10 Product Key And Activation: How To Find It And How It Works | Redmond Pie) you wind up needing it.

Then, after you get your SSD, do a fresh Win 10 install on the SSD. Do the install with only the SSD installed, then connect the mechanical drive after the install is finished.

    Yeah, agreed.

Although I ended up simply going out and buying a Win10 OEM key, because it pissed me off so bad that I had to install 7 onto a Z170 Chipset with all the hassles that entails, just to "upgrade" to 10. Grrr.

    LOL

Well, Win10 is in now, had a serious clench moment when the configuration window came up and said "that's all the info we need now, so sit back and relax while we finish installing your os". Last time I heard that was at the dentist's office and the Novacain kicked in, the dentist said the same thing, then turned on the drill! Got a few "honeydoo's" to get out of the way first, but should finish this project by the end of the weekend.
