    Reports have begun to surface of Intel 6th-gen (Skylake) CPUs and their corresponding motherboards being damaged from some cooling solutions. Some reports suggest that these chips have a weaker construction that can sustain damage when too much pressure is applied...

    Yep! that is what I think too.
    Even though it may not affect all that many users, Intel could have deployed a better PCB. Cost cutting TIM is one thing, cost shaving PCB quality is another.

    Yep ! both decisions where based solely on profit$.
    On the bright side >> this may have also helped the profit margins of the liquid cooling manufacturers and TIM vendors too.

    I have an Air Cooler that's been ID'd as one that will break a Skylake CPU. (Scythe MugenMax)
    I contacted Scythe and they offered me an alternative mounting for it for free.
    They shipped it out to me the same day.

    I assume that all of these companies will be doing the same thing.
