    Unhappy Problems or RMAs

I Thought I'd start this thread with a view to finding out if any particular Make or Model of the kit that we have been buying has problems or has had to be RMA'd by you the Members.

    I'll start this off....

Maximus formula....Died following Replacement of ram and tidy of cabling don't know why RMA'd

Maximus formula.....Switch on, power lights for half second then auto power off after resetting to stock settings prior to reducing overclock for 24/7 use. About to be RMA'd

OCZ flex 9200 ram one stick died RMA'd

Antec 850w PSU inop same time as first maximus RMA'd

Palit 8800gt inop same time as first maximus RMA'd

Asus p5e vm hdmi....This one works fine but if you are buying with a view to larger overclock read on...

    Set Bios for 1.6v= Idle 1.52v...Load 1.36v
Set Bios for 1.7v= Idle =1.59v ..load =1.44 (and fluctuates lower)

This is with voltage damper on!!!

This board needs pencil mod at least...there is a voltmod that cures this.
Otherwise this is a pretty good board that will run hdmi happily at 1.8gig if you want to underclock for silence. you will need to upgrade the NB cooling solution

ATI 9800 XT - died over and over and over, i RMA'd this about 4 times.

DFI 975x - northbridge died, DFI EU told me to send it to them, so shipping was expensive and took ages, and they replaced the northbridge and sent it back in not very good condition. I will only ever RMA with the shop i bought it from now.

THere have been others but i can't seem to recall them!

EVGA 680i. BAH!!! 2 boards toast, touchy touchy things.

    OCZ Platinum 1gb DDR2-800

Western Digital drives HATE me. I've LITERALLY fried 2 (as in MELTED the PC, had 1 corrupt on me, and 1 started clicking. Only Raptors are fine for WD, I only use Seagate otherwise.

USB flash drives, several brands, these things are NOT very solid.

Bigfootnetworks Killer NIC card. Bad from Day 1, but they replaced it quick.

HP Ipaq 1710 Pocket PC, piece of crap and I could NOT get a return on it even with the extended warranty I bought, they said it was due to User Fault. My @$$, it was like it when I got it.

come to think of it, many many years ago I had the 5.25" HDD (remember this guys?) die on me, never RMA because the warranty was expired, I think it was Seagate.

Let see what else, oh...last year a Plextor DVD drive die, didn't RMA either because it was too much trouble to RMA and it was cheap and easier to buy a replacement.

Ok, RMA my Galaxy PSU. I shorted it out ....it was still under warranty, it took only less than 5 working days to get my brand new replacement. Oh man...I've shorted so many components with my laziness and sticky fingers. I've learned a lesson, always turn off the power when you work with the electronic stuff.

I wish I could say I knew why. but this happened during shutting down the 4 cores from folding ...screen went white and spkr constant tone

I've left my dmm at work so it can wait another day.

Talking again about the p5e vm hdmi MB: when I bought this you could lift both NB = SB heatsinks off in your fingers (against the spring pressure). now after a few days running at MB temps in the order of 30Deg C NB sink is welded on (and I would have to say discoloured) so if you are going to change the thermal paste do it from the outset!!!

Set number2 of flex 9200 are back with supplier...I wish that when things are RMA'd there was some feedback from manufacturer....I'd love to know why for example over time ram seems to need more and more volts till in the end it won't boot.

I do seem to post a lot here don't I?

Picked up a trendnet tew 633gr wireless n router connected it, loaded the software, visited a few sites on the main rig. connected the laptop and set up security, visited the same few sites then.....dead no lights nada.

soft start, hard start and still nothing removed power supply from socket...V warm...hot even...so either bad psu or short developed on unit is my guess

Maybe it's time I stopped playing the lottery..... with luck like this......
