Exclamation Gaming HORSEPOWER - help me :D

    I already have a Pentium D 820 @ 2.8GHZ will absolutely overclock it abit
and this is what im getting, so your job is to tell me, what is too underkill/overkill, or what might be bottlenecking something else I want to play games like Far Cry 2, Crysis, and all the new upcoming games with MAX, 110% graphics, with more than 30-50 FPS, i dont want to see any lower than 29, it ruins a game especially shooting games, 20 fps and below makes it impossible to aim.. I know the cooler might not be the best but i cant find anything else on tigerdirect, i live in denmark so i dont have many options :P So, bring it on! will this rig work? oh and forgot to mention, im on a budget.. 1100$ dollars or so is my maximum..
    Corsair TX750W

    Palit Radeon HD 4870 X2 Video Card - 2GB

ZEROtherm / Butterfly BTF90 (i like butterflies1!1!!1! well no i just cant find any other good cooler so this is it o.0)

    Patriot Extreme 4096MB Dual Channel PC6400 DDR2 800MHz

    Thermaltake VI6001BNS Strike MX

    Asus P5QL PRO Motherboard
    _ and.. uhh..

Thermaltake CL-O0027 TG1 Extreme High Grade Thermal Grease

PD 820 will bottleneck the X2 and 750wpsu a little tad under power for X2 as well.
    What size of your monitor?
if you have less than 24" then you just waste your money on the X2.

well i heard the CPU wont bottleneck video cards enough to be worth upgrading, i have a 20" crt screen.. hmm, so will the 4870x2 give me the same frames as a single 4870?

Need a fast CPU, something like an E8500. With what you're proposing, definitely a good CPU is needed to keep up with that X2 GPU.

750w Corsair PSU should do the trick but it wouldn't hurt to pitch in just a bit of extra cash and go a bit larger.

What if, i just overclock the CPU i have now, to like 4ghz or close.. and leave it like that? why would it bottleneck?

A 2.8ghz Core2Duo absolutely DESTROYS a 2.8ghz Pentium D, just so you know. They're different architectures, so you can't compare the clocks speeds as equal to performance. It's like comparing apples to watermelons.

As for GPUs, some single GPUs are better than dual, that is correct. It depends, however, on what CPU you'll be using and what resolution you'll be gaming at. Lower resolutions are more dependent on better/faster CPUs, and at some point, believe it or not, a single better card can actually outperform dual cards.

To be honest, if you're going to spring that kind of cash on the specs you're showing, there's no point in keeping that old CPU. A new one isn't that expensive compared to what you'll be spending on everything else. Otherwise it's like buying a new Ferrari but deciding you don't want the engine because you're gonna put in your Chevy engine.

But why does it destroy the old cpu? can you explain me why? I just need some cold facts that buying a new CPU will give me better frames per seconds :S

Here, take a look at some CPU benchmarks.......Click on any benchmark/game, and then select your CPU and a new one to compare:

still.. can anyone give me a detailed explanation on why the E8400 for example, is better than the Pent. D 820 running at 4ghz even?

only if your quad can out clock 4.6Ghz at any rate the newer core architecture out performs the older PD's (Pentium D's) because of what is called a clock cycle. In VERY basic form think of it like this ....now processors execure commands very quickly..(like nano second quick) now say your old proc does 4 executions per nano second(4 thoughts) the core architecture can do 8 or twice as much in that same nano second bam more fps more efficient architecture...and that is the diffirence very watered down.
