Default I got myself a blu-ray disk drive!

Hey all, I was browsing Newegg and came across a blu-ray disk drive. And even though it has a high price tag, I decided to take the plunge into buying it for my computer. Along with a new 80GB HDD for my laptop and a 550W PSU for this also. The blu-ray disk drive is called "

    "LITE-ON Black 12X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 4X DVD+R DL 12X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-ROM 32X CD-R 24X CD-RW 32X CD-ROM SATA 2X Blu-ray Disc Triple DVD Burner"

LOL, I know, it is a mouthful! Once I get it, I will do a full review. On technology like CD Drives, DVD and now Blu-Ray, I like to keep up with as they don't get replaced as much as processors etc.

Like I said, I will review it as soon as I get it. Here is a link to the blu-ray drive itself.

Just 1 question about it however, Why does it need such a high spec PC to run? Mine will have no problems doing so, but what makes it require high specs?

yeah DVD drives were when they came out too.

Like say what said, its really the requirements needed to play back HD content in software, though i think both nvidia and ATI offer some form of acceleration for this sort of stuff, but i'm not too privy with this stuff.

Yeah, I paid $398 for my first DVD drive, its still in mint condition today and works like new and looks like new, no scratches etc. It will be good to watch High Definition films. The reason for the new PSU, 80GIG HDD and BD/RW is because I won £1000 so I had a lot of money to upgrade when I got back, approximately $1,954.55.

With the money, I spent it as follows

    $1100 towards a car
    $600 towards a BD Drive
    $70 towards a laptop HDD
    $80 towards a PSU

And the rest of the money will be for anything that catches my eyes.

Well ill let you know what its like as soon as I get it

LOL thanks, it was a total shock to me when I won.

Went in to the fair with £10, put 10p in the tombola, won £1,000. Absolutely fantastic day

Nvidia call it Pure Video, comes with 7600^

Ive got a tone of brochers on it but havent got round to reading them

And yes it does require a good pc. You need a Dual core cpu and a HD monitor to get the full experience.

lol all i can say is those will be some expensive coasters, if you try to burn and get any

EDIT: also with Nvidia pure video the level of acceleration depends on which version you get ( bronze, gold, platinum) but they all have the same video capabilities but mabey better sound options like surround sound etc.....

is it that clan that spammed this forum recently who is giving you it? just when you said TS i thought of team speak?

*EDIT* guess not as its an AMD rig. Recently someone joined up and posted that if you were a good CS player they, in conjunction with Intel would give you a Core 2 Duo PC etc to test out and report back on and join there clan, post was deleted as it was spam, just sounded like you actually did it and got one there for a second
