For $25 less... not a big bang
CPU: Core i7 3930K |
M/B: ASRock X79 Extreme9 |
RAM: 64GBs Kingston Beast 2133MHz |
GPU: Two EVGA GTX 690s in Quad SLI |
|
Both of them are a decent deal.
CPU: Intel Core i7 2600k @ 4.6 GHz |
M/B: ASUS Maximus IV Extreme-Z |
RAM: 16GB G.Skill RipJaws DDR3 2133 @ 11-11-11-30 |
GPU: 2x MSI R6970 Lightning II (Crossfire) |
|
But then again, also look at the motherboards that go with those processors as well. An enthusiast mobo for an i7 is $350 or higher, and an enthusiast i5 board runs at $250 or more. However, an enthusiast AMD board runs at under $200, so there is some more Bang for the buck. Then compare prices between triple channel vs. dual channel memory. More savings there.
So, when you are really trying to figure out "Bang for the Buck" you really have to compare system price vs. system price. Not just CPU prices.

Prices on boards have dropped, my MSI P55-GD80 is only $209 , the Asus Maximus III Gene is only $199.99 Lets not forget Sky was able to get the new Intel chip to 4.5Ghz on air, like I said, they are both good deals.
The $99 AMD chips we reviewed did a good job overclocking 3.86GHz, they would have done a great job if our reviewer had a 32bit OS. Plus look at the Kingston 1600 MHz P55 kit we just reviewed, this is the best 1600MHz kit ever, we were able to hit 2200MHz for $100 that's very hard to over look.
