i cant seem to fix this. the drives are connected i think by IDE (big cable with 3 conectors on it got 24 pins aprox. 1 master 1 slave conection) is there any settup for dvd/dvdrw drives? with my new screen i want to watch some movies.:$ it seems like the cable i used to connect the drives is struggling to provide the bandwith required to read cd/dvd's quickly. any help is greatly apreciated

UDMA disabled made it worse

    1. have you made sure that both optical drives are set up correctly, one master, one slave?
    2. Is DMA enabled in windows device manager?
    3. What HDDs are you using?
    4. Have you tried updating the BIOS motherboard?
    5. Have you tried just one optical drive

Was this drive working before and now it's not? or you just installed it from the old system?

First of all, if you hooked up 2 optical drives in the same IDE (Master/Slave). It will slow down if both are running at the same time, because it's sharing the same bandwidth. That's why SATA has more advantage in this mater.

Just installed this CD/DVD drive, CHECK the jumpers make sure you set them properly. If the jumpers correct then try to update the latest drive from it's manufacture.

Leave the BIOS at Auto detect.

You can unhook the slave drive and leave the master on, set jumper as Master and try to test each drive if they are working porperly or not.
My guess the jumper is the culprits.

    Hope this help.

What program did you use to burn? Try using magiciso to burn your iso file to cd or dvd. It works well for me.
