Exclamation Asus Rampage II ex and SLI Help

Hi thanks in advance for any help with this.
Anyway I have a Asus Rampage II ex as in my sig and I've just bought two Nvidia GTX480 GPU's which I want to run in SLI in the book it says that all 3 PCI-E slot are 2.0 X16.
So can I use slot 1 and 3 for SLI instead of slots 1 and 2 or would this affect the bandwidth and performace.

The RIIE runs in x16/x8/x8 or x16/x16/x1 mode. So you won't get x16/x16/x16 like you describe. HOWEVER.......you can change the lane assignments in the BIOS between the 2nd and 3rd PCI-E slots. This means you can run your 480's in the 1st and 3rd slots will minimal performance hit, if at all.

    Thanks for the reply skyguy.
Yeah I was reading that in the book, I think thats what I need to do, That way there's a 3in gap between them would make it easier to get some much needed airflow to them.
I'm going to move it all over to my CM stacker 830 case being a bigger case.
I had to do some major surgery to the case because the way the mobo is the No 3 slot only lines up with last slot on the case and would have blocked the exhaust part of the GPU.
So I added a extra slot for it
