He's either 15 or 16. at least that's what his best friends dad told me. He's young, and I would hate to see his life get ruined, due to not running any kind of protection, especially due to the fact that there's a lot of decent programs for free!
Like Kenny said, even running MSE and Malware Bytes together is decent free protection.

I pay for my software when not free.
    So no warning needed here!!

I turn automatic updates Off because alot of them don't pertain to my setup, Like Vid MS Vid card approved drivers among other things.
    I screen the check boxes.

Default Re: are AVs just a scam and not necessary ??

I buy a year at a time from Microsoft Tech Net, for what one person pays for a retail copy of Win 7, I get 5 key codes for every single OS I'll even get 5 for every edition of windows 8 when it's released. The only difference is you have to burn the OS into a CD or DVD, you also get key codes for for MS Office, the codes come for both OEM and Retail.

I believe it costs me $199 for the year, and that's for every edition of Win 7 both 32bit and 64bit, you can even go all the way back to XP and get codes, it's $199 that's well spent

Stan, I have 4 builds, this would be way woth it for me, if these key codes never expire. Please post a link for me. 199.00, is less than I paid for for 1 copy of Windows 7 Ult 64 bit, I paid 319.00 from Microsoft and got a free copy for hosting a party when it was released. But my other 2 builds have Win7 Professional OEM for 139.00 each, so this would be a steal for me, if the key codes never expire.

Alan, just Google Microsoft Technet Subscriptions the cheapest one is $199 for the 1st year, $149 for every year after that's for the standard version, next is Tech Net Pro which is $349, renewal fee is $249 and last is Tech Net Pro with Media which costs $599, renewal fee is $449

It would be best for you to buy the standard version that's what I did
