But that's a synthetic test. How are your real world FRAPS fps in games, both minimum, average and max?

I am just making statement about 3DMark06. I am on a mission to break 28,000 points and the last 2 drivers set my score back. Has nothing to do with real world.

ATI's Catalyst 10.8 release notes say
Performance has been greatly improved for users running with ATI Eyefinity on a
    Quad ATI CrossFireX™ configuration
Fudzilla.com says (Thurs. morning, August 26):
Although we aren't sure if the performance enhancement also applies to Quad-CrossFireX users who are not using EyeFinity, we are in the process of testing and benchmarking our two Radeon HD 5970s in order to quantify the performance changes.
Maybe you want to pre-empt them and do the testing yourself, and then release a short article on the topic?

Doctor Death was wondering if there are performance increases mentioned for Crossfired 5970s in Catalyst 10.8. Since ATI's release notes for Catalyst 10.8 mention improvements in Eyefinity mode, perhaps there are improvements on single monitor gaming. Since Doctor Death is in a position to do this testing - as he has a dual 5970 setup, which is usually rare - he can do the testing himself with 10.8 and release an article about it. As I understand it, this is a website that does reviews and articles of computer hardware... right?

    So, makes sense now?

Since Doctor Death is in a position to do this testing - as he has a dual 5970 setup, which is usually rare - he can do the testing himself with 10.8 and release an article about it. As I understand it, this is a website that does reviews and articles of computer hardware... right?

    So, makes sense now?

This has no bearing on my 28,000 goal for 3DMark06. I am like 8 points off hoping new drivers would get me there with 10.6 or 10.5...I forget.

I think he only has one 5870 2GB unless he bought another one that I didn't know about ?

ATI CrossFireX Application Profile 10.8a Performance

The issues holding back performance in these two titles has now been fixed thanks to the new CrossFireX Application Profile. This is what the CAP system was intended for; to provide performance and compatibility updates to CrossFireX without having to wait between driver versions. Unfortunately, it hasn’t quite worked out this way, with CAP updates coming about as frequently as driver updates. It has been months with these CrossFireX performance issues present, and we are only now seeing it get fixed. AMD needs to stay in tune with its customers a bit better in the future, because honestly, these CFX issues were even voiced in AMD's own forums months ago.

Woah... that's a massive boost. I wonder if that applies to all the 5000 series Radeons in Crossfire, not just the 5870. Because that would make 2x 5770s in Crossfire a viable, and cheaper, alternative to getting a 5870 if that happens.
