Default Decided to bring out an old friend...

Hello! Just got a few questions. I had got my replacement 4890 back a little while ago and I still had the same problem as before. I'd put the card in, the computer would power on and sometimes go to windows. Other times the fan would just go to 100%, the PC would freeze and I'd have to restart manually. But all the time in windows the fan would be revving to 100% and back to normal, then 100% then normal... When I went on a website or anything then the PC would freeze and need a manual restart. What the hell is the matter with this card?! Also, Powercolor has the worst service I swear to god. I have sent away 3 cards so far, and each one I got back had the same problem. Or were they just sending me back the same card? I checked the serial numbers each time and they were different. I am not going to bother with anymore RMA's from Powercolor. I am VERY dissatisfied with their service. I plan to get an HD 6850 on christmas, and it will NOT be a Powercolor!

Have you tried to completely remove the drivers for it, before installing the card using driver sweeper?

Yes sir, I have tried it in three different machines. This is the card I'm having the problems with: http://h.imagehost.org/0123/VGA_004.jpg

I noticed that it has no sinks on the memory chips. Could this be a symptom of my problem?

I wouldn't think so but you never know, I highly doubt they would have an over sight that big on a production card. My guess would be improper drivers for the card what OS are you using and is it 32 or 64 bit?

Just a opinion... It could be a PSU issue. Do the other machines have an ample PSU?

Well, mine is the OCZ GameXstream 700W. I have tried the card just by itself and no luck. As for the other two, one was a Thermaltake 430W, and the oher I'm unsure of but it's 600W.

the symptops you are describing tend to be caused by some sort of overheat or lack of connections on one of components (let it be ram or VRM or something else). If you have tried it on different systems then it cant be you PC thats causing this. Also if you had 3 cards from them and they are the same , then they either have send you the same card back or they have a batch of cards with the same issue. TBH i dont think you'll be able to do anything about it yourself unfortunatelly.

Maybe the only thing you could check is to take of the heatsink and check whether it has proper contact and if its not touching PCB anywhere

Did you have the same issue when you tried it in the other machines? Or just when installed in your machine?

So "driver sweeper" is a good program to remove old drivers? I'm getting ready to replace my graphics card and I'd like to clean them out.
