    Default oc old xfx amd radeon hd 5670

    Ok so, i keep things short and streight to the point:
    I have an xfx hd 5670 of 1gb gddr5. I removed the decorative plastic:

    And from having 50 and 90 on full load.. pass to have 33 to 55 in full load (of course also cleaned it all)

    (if to lazy to read, pls, just check my 4 questions at the bottom)

    So decided to start overclocking my 1 year old vid card.. i always had this program "msi afterburner" but this one don't let me touch the voltage, even wen i mark the boxes still don't show the voltage controls~ SO i downloaded "atitry tools" and with this one i was able to finally change the voltage from 0.99 to 1.1 and the temperature went streight from 38 to 50~52 in normal.. and got a full load of 66...67
    Well, i started to overclock with atitrytools, but i don't know if this normal or not, but wen i set the overclock lets just say.. 800 (from 775) the core clocks stays there, i mean theres no minimum like it used to be before overclocked it, only stayed the max all the time.
    Anyway, i tried to boost it to 840 and was ok.. i manage to boost to 860 and having a max load temps of 70~72 max. Tried the game "batman arkham city" and before oc had 30fps on full grafics, and after the oc i got to 40+ Also tested "Battlefield 3" with all ultra had 26~30fps before oc, and after oc got 30~38. If i go further then 860+ i get error, freezes, and graffics errors.

    My specs:
    cpu: Intel core 2 duo E8400 3ghz
    ram: ocz 2gb ddr2
    os: windows 7 32bits
    mother: asus p5kc
    My native resolution is of 1024x768 and max of 1280x1024 i use max res all the time for everything (and yeh, my screen is far to old.. )

    My main questions are:
    °It is ok if the core clocks stay ALL the time on the overclocked settings? (again, before used to had a minimum of 157 i believe and went to 775 automatically wen needed to)

    °Do i have to overclock as well the video memory? i have 1gb and never goes higher then 500 of use so i never really overclocked it.. but don't know if HAVE to oc for stability things? (if can explain this to me i would be really happy!)

    °Theres any other/better program then atitry tools for overclock?

    °For last question, long ago wen i overclocked the cpu.. a dude told me to set the "pci-ex frequency" from auto to 100 on the bios... can't really recall what was it for~ does this may affect the overclocking of the videocard in any way?

    Thats all, thanks very much for read! and sorry my english sux lil bit to much..

    You have to alter the .cfg file official overclocking needs to be 1 if I remember. Open in wordpad, change the .cfg and save.

    Welcome here

    Have to say that your card in Batman and BF3 on Ultra settings in highly unlikely and you may be
    reading your results wrong.
    I run two Very Good xfx 5770's slightly newer cards in CF and can't come close to maxing out the
    settings.
    Even with a lower resolution and 30-45fps.

    Ultra setting even with the latest cards have to work to get that.

    As to loaded temps can't see a problem there.
    MSI AfterBurner is a good clocking tool.
    As to the Asus Bios 100 is default and can set manually if you want.
    Have tried all the way to 108 as to frequency and heat was the result.

    I run it at 100.

    1) yes you can, most cards switch to 2d mode when there is no load. IMO, no need to have the card runs at Oced at all time.

    2) you wouldn`t see FPS increase with memory OC. NO, you don`t have to OC the mem if you don't want too.

    3) Afterburn or TriXX

    4) yes you can OC the PCI-E, but it is not safe to go pass 105 because if there are any other hardware using the PCIe will also overclocked.

    @Drdeath
    which .cfg u mean? where do i find this .cfg? sorry for my ignorance

    @Irocing
    Well i checked fps with msi after burner, fraps, and atitry tools (of course 1 at the time) and all said same thing. And wasnt wrong reading becouse i do felt the change as well before and after the oc.
    Maybe is 'coz u provably have an bad ass LCD (or led) while i still own and very old crt flat screen :P (not sure, but it could be coz of that~)
    Also take note i have 32bits os, and can't run batman with dx11.. (stupid rockstedy never helped 32bits users with that problem.. )
    But anyway thanks for the info u gived me!

    @Deton
    Thanks alot for answer everything! i will look for this program "trixx" and checked it out soon as posible!
    I checked atitry tools and do have some option for automatic 2d/3d but not sure how that works so i didint touched.. but that was before
    now u told me bout that gonna try out that function of atitry tools and see what happends!

    @Doctor_Death

    @Irocing

    @Deton

    Yes, That would make a difference as to the CRT's rez.

    DX 11 would depend on the game.
    That card doesn't support DX11 anyway.
    You have some headroom as to temp as you clock that card under load.
    Would try to stay at 75c or under.

    Good Luck

    Well i used the trixx program, and was all good.. i boosted to 860 only, also the voltage to 1.1 but after be 5min in game the screen turned all grey and was able to hear the sound of the game, and even play, but couldnt get the image back.. tried to minimize the game with alt+tab, and seems it did it but still couldnt get back the image~ so i restarted the pc with no other option. I may be doin something wrong, but don't know what! the temperature were good, wsnt even on 60 wen this happend.

    Any ideas ?
    Edit:
    @Drdeath
    The ".cfg" u spoke about, could be in:
    C:>Users>xxx>AppData>Local>ATI>ACE>Profiles.xml ?
    Is the only relevant i can think bout.. if is not, pls tell me which one u mean
    (and what exactly should i change in there?)

    I don't have anything else on pci-ex slot, i only have 2 of them, and using only 1 with the 5670 card. Should i incresse the 100 pci-ex frequency on the bios?

    This what I use and might give it a try.

    Sometimes takes more than one attempt to get it to stick.
    Attachment 2640
    As to changing the freq higher than default at 100, Don't think it is even relevent.

    @Irocing
    Thanks, i will try it out right now!
    I found 2, the enableulps, and another called: "enableulps_NA" is also on 1, should i set that one on 0 as well?

    While waiting ur answer, decided to google the word "enableulps" and found out is for crossfire right? what i wonder is.. why i had it on "1" while i only have 1 single video card... anyway i will disable the "enableulps_NA" as well and restart the pc, if one thing i'm sure, that feature is useless for me :P

    As always, thanks for the help! (goin to restart)

    Edit:
    Still can't pass 850, if i set 860 the screen restarts.

    then you can OC the PCIe, as I mentioned don't go over 105.

    It's mean your OC is not stable, need more voltage. BTW, how do you check for the stability?

    @Deton
    But if is already on 100 the PCIex frequency.. should i set it on 104?

    The voltage is at max, cant go further then 1.1 with Trixx. Could push the voltage even more at the BIOS?

    For test i normally run games, like i said before.. batman arkham city, and battlefield 3, both on higher settings for stress the card to the max. Also have gpu caps viewer, but can't really stress the card to the max with that program (at least didint found any usefull demo in there)

    Theres any free software for stress the video card and get benchmarks results?

    Edit:
    I just read around in other forum about the drivers 12.4 causing the screen go black~ which is what happended to me 2day, and today i updated the grafics card's drivers... goin to install older drivers and see if i can go back to 860 (would make sense.. y'day before update drivers i pushed to 870 before get the screen freezed)
    I will comeback right after to confirm this!
    Edit2:
    Well think it was that.. i went back to 12.3 and i'm not having anymore black screens so far (ati driver problems.. annoying me since 2005 -.-") Tho still having screen freeze.
    Gues everybody went to sleep already! Cya tomorrow ppl
