AMD To Announce Price-Cuts on HD 7800 and HD 7950 After GTX 660 Ti Launch

AMD is planning to give further price cuts to its Radeon HD 7000 series lineup after the launch of NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 660 Ti. NVIDIA’s GTX 660 Ti is already awaited by many fans and mid-range gamers.

To be specific, AMD would announce price cuts on Radeon HD 7850/ HD 7870 and Radeon HD 7950. The Radeon HD 7950 recently got a price cut from $450 to $350 for reference models. The retail price of NVIDIA’s GTX 660 Ti is set at $299 so our guesstimate is that the new price of HD 7950 would be around $329.

Price cuts are all well and good, but these ones aren't deep enough and they need to be on the 7970s too. That's the card the 660 is competing with. AMD is in rough shape because it's top tier card is competing against nVidia's third tier card. AMD is getting killed in the gpu wars.

I think AMD is just getting killed in general...

Price drops are always good. Every review I've seen has the 660ti falling in between the 7870 and the 7950 most of the time, especially at higher resolutions. I think AMD needs to get a 7000 series card into the area between the 7770 and the 7850.

Our review shows the 660Ti OC models tied with or beating the HD 7970. AMD is getting trounced in both the GPU and CPU markets by nVidia and Intel. If they don't get their **** together soon, they will find themselves going bankrupt.

Well AMD pretty much already admitted they lost the speed war for CPUs now if they lose the GPUs too they're done.

Then the government will deem it a monopoly and break it up and the process will start all over again.

It's not quite that simple Polo. Breaking up a company as a monopoly isn't a simple matter. Intel would have a strong argument that they didn't create the situation through unlawful competition, just better products.

No you think wrong. Sales for AMD were good cause nobody had 680's a few months ago. They do this everytime Nvidea realeases new stuff.

Well they've lost the CPU battle and except for Nvidia's shortages they're losing the GPUs too. Haven't heard of any shortages recently so it seems like Nvidia got their sh*t together faster than AMD ever will.
