Default Video Card upgrade or not?

I'm currently running a saphire 6970 and xfx 6950 in xfire (so xfire 6950s ultimately). I'm still a AMD fan but I'm up in the air on a lot of things.... keep in mind I'm planning on doing a WC build which would be a new case, wc parts, and possibly waiting for steam roller or crossing over and going intel (might be last resort). Also, the WC build won't happen until after I get back from my deployment (which i'll be gone from Oct - May).

    1. Would it be worth getting a new GPU (7970, gtx670, or gtx 680) instead of using my xfire setup? Keep in mind after the deployment I'll either go xfire/sli or maybe if price is right tri xfire/sli.
    2. Go intel now and have to buy a new chip, board, and possibly a cpu cooler because i lost the adapters for my corsair H70. Also, if i go intel i really want to do a WC setup in the silverstone FT03 tower.
    3. Upgrade from 600t to the 800d (btw, i love this case) if I stay AMD?
    4. Start purchasing WC parts for my current setup knowing that I'm going to upgrade something just don't know what?

Have I mentioned that I love/hate this addition!

Ok. I understand your frustration with AMD, but I would give them some time to see what happens in the next 6 months or so. In other words, I wouldn't decide to switch to the dark side until after your deployment if I were you. I would also wait to decide on GPU's until then. I would also hold off on watercooling until then. Your rig is plenty fast enough for now. I would wait to see where things are at when you get back. By the way, thank you for your service and stay safe!

It's a sweet case, but for versatility and best bang for your buck I recommend a Switch 810. Without any modifications to the case, it will accept a 360 rad in the roof, a 120 or 140 rad in the rear, and a 240 rad at the bottom. If you use slim design rads, push/pull fan config is not a problem. Can't do all that with an 800D without mods.

Very true, the swtich 810 is a very nice case (i dig the white look) and for the price it's hard to pass up!

As Sam said, thanks for your service.
If you can wait, I would do that. By May of next year there could (will be) be many new products released. We will have had time to review many of them and we'll know what is good, and not so good.
DDR4 memory might be emerging by then, as well as newer, better graphics offerings. We'll have seen new CPU offerings from both Intel and AMD too.

I wouldn't even buy the case yet because by then, there may be something much better on the market that you'll want instead.

Sam & Jim and die hard AMD fans, if you want the best bang for your buck, go with the GTX 670, we showed in our latest HD7970 review that was published this week, that the HD7970s performance is on par with the 670, and at $150 cheaper per card you can't go wrong. With two 670s and SLI enabled, your going to have a smoking fast system.

Jim, before you but in with AMD, just go back to having sex with your newest 7970
