If these benchmarks are correct, yes.

That's more than I anticipated, but as Sandy said, pre-order price means nothing. It could very well be just a placeholder, for example AriaUk has the R9-290X listed (link) for preorder for £11999, that is roughly $19000

I hope the final price will be more towards the $650 mark

Hey Guys, once again, do not go by any results that have been shown, or what people say, you need to wait until actual reviews have been published, placing a pre-order now would be very foolish, without seeing actual results from a reputable site.

Truth. I've seen people get burned far too many times rushing out to buy parts only to find out day-of that the benchmark results were not what they were expecting at all (womp womp).

That being said, I'd say low to mid 600 range seems fairly reasonable for the R9 290X as the final price once everything settles in. Heck I'd pay it if I had it.

    AMD Radeon R9 280X, R9 270X, R7 260X, R7 250 and R7 240 Launch DetailsCheck this out...

I the R9 280X is priced at $299.99 and only benchmarks a few frames behind the GTX780 at HALF the price, also its $100 Cheaper then the GTX770 is beats it but a small margin, but saving a $100 bucks and getting the higher VRAM is a big win in my book, I can't wait to see what th R9 290X is going to be like...

Here is the benchmarks I looked at so far..
Sapphire AMD Radeon R9 280X Vapor-X OC 3GB Graphics Card Review

I can't wait to see some of what Jakes reviews will be like and his thoughts.

Jake and Sandy are doing the R9 reviews, but we have only received the R9 270s, the 280X we were supposed to review will be shipped at a later date.

Kenny, it said the 280X beat the GTX770, not the 780 Click image for larger version.

I did see a few reviews that had the 280x really close to the 780 in a couple of test. If that remains to be the case then at $299 a 280x is a hell of a deal.

It will be even a better deal if the extend the Never Settle promotion to the new lineup. I have read that they will not pass this promotion onto the new cards, because AMD wants to get rid of the HD7xxx first.
I am really tempted now, but I will be definitely sold if they include Battlefield 4 as a free game with the R9 series.

Yeah not just the R9-290 and 290x. The 280x should at least have BF4 included.I can understand not including the games with the 270x. I mean damn its already $199.

I saw prices fall for the 7XXX series lately. Seen a 7950 for less then $200 on sale. a 7970 for $279. Going to be hard to sell the R7 and R9 series if the 7XXX price falls out like that. lol

I never said it beat it, I said on a few benchmarks it was only a few frames behind it. But you have to say, for $299 price and only benchmarking 5-6 frames behind the top end GTX780 that is $650 isn't too bad at all... You can buy 2 R9 280X at this price and kick the GTX780 out of its waters...

The R9 280X is better placed up against the GTX 770, but even then, the 280X is $100 cheaper with more VRAM out of the box which makes it s killer deal.

Exactly!! I couldn't agree more. AMD is pricing these cards very competitively...
Glad to hear from Stan that you will be working on one of the AMD GPUs..... Good job Buddy!

Thanks Kenny! I was just as surprised as you! It is an honor to make the jump to GPUs. I hope I can even come close to Jakes level of detail and make Stan proud.

I saw prices fall for the 7XXX series lately. Seen a 7950 for less then $200 on sale. a 7970 for $279. Going to be hard to sell the R7 and R9 series if the 7XXX price falls out like that. lol
Yup, the rumor mill is that the 280x will include B4 as part of its package. If that is still the case we will find out soon...
With the prices dropping on the 7xxx cards it will be great for those who haven't upgraded yet, but at the prices of the new R9 series, I would skip it and just get the 280x or 270 and call it a day.
