I've been figuring $499 by the end of the year. People went crazy when they saw the initial pricing, but we all know the game here.

I actually dont see it falling that fast. One reason is the cooling solutions vendors will put on them and special OC editions will kick the price up closer to $600. Even at the end of the year around Xmas it may fall back to the $549 range. Besides with it being top dog in performance and being a better overall value then 780 and Titan and maybe the 780ti, AMD will not have a reason to drop the price. The current 780 is around $650. The 780ti will take that place and the 780 will drop to $599. For them to compete they would need to drop it all the way to $549 to match the 290x. But it falls behind in performance. So it would been to be priced slightly below the 290x at $499-529. That is a big hit to Nvidias bottom dollar and is an admission that they got slapped around on this round. They have already had to drop the prices across their entire line up to compete with the R7 and R9s that have been released.

Great news for AMD and its fans, Bad news for Nvidia but could be very good news for Nvidia fans if prices do start dropping.

Yes, now we are talking. Also, let's not forget the 290, because I expect it to be an extremely good deal.
I feel the urge to upgrade....

Just went through 5-8 reviews on this thing. Really impressed with amd on this one. If they could start doing the same thing in the processor world now, it'll be a great time to buy parts again!!! So glad somebody came out with something interesting, and can't wait to see what MSI and Gigabyte do with these things and their cooling!!!

I find it funny that some of the reviews show this thing going blow for blow with 780, while others (techpowerup for example) show this being significantly ahead of both 780 AND Titan in most instances. I DO agree that the 95 C temp target is ludicrously hot, but if you're the kind of enthusiast that's buying one of these and aren't going to water cool it, I'm of the mind that you're doing it wrong. Still, the only excuse that the stock cooler has is that it was a means of keeping the price down.

a lot of it has to do with testing methods and system setup. Jake and I can review the same card an get different results. Depends on which drive there were using. The latest beta drives will net you a few percentage points in a lot of those games they were benching with and 3dmark. So sites have PhysX turned on in some games. That makes it unfair and makes an AMD card look worse then what it is. Turn off proprietary features when benching to get a more accurate score.

Hopefully we get one soon as we can find out on our own.

That makes it unfair and makes an AMD card look worse then what it is. Turn off proprietary features when benching to get a more accurate score.

Hopefully we get one soon as we can find out on our own.
Yeah that'll definitely do it. You also notice that they never bother to mention anything like PhysX being on or off in games, or any other proprietary AMD tech for that matter. Once we get a review sample that should definitely be discussed briefly in the test results.

This was the price marks that I had been reading about and both Sandy and I had mentioned.. Now that I have seen reviews on this man its a killer deal.....
Too bad I won't be upgrading to the 290X anytime soon...

Maybe in the next generation when my 670 and 7970s are out of date or falling behind in games... Can't afford to keep updating..but the price of the 290x us very very tempting to say the least. lolz
