    hey i have had my gtx 580 now for a couple of years and i am looking to upgrade to play some of the new games on max settings what would you guys recomond me buying ? as i have been out of the loop on the new vedio cards

    how much you looking to spend? i would suggest a AMD R9 280X or Nvidia GTX 770.

    Go for a GTX 780.. AMD's release has prompted an nvidia price drop and boy does it look good.

    $700 then you have a lots of options. the new AMD top card is the R9 290X it's only $549. you can also get the the Nvidia Gtx 780 for under $700 or you can get 2 R9 280X's and run them in Crossfire or maybe 2 Gtx 770's and run them in SLI.

    How much do u guys think nvidias cards will drop and how llong will it take for them to to start dropping ?. I was looking at the 290x but the temperature looks a little bit high for my liking

    Absolutely. Hell yes.

    I think that the 290X looks great for the price, (if I had the cash, I would buy a pair of them) but I would wait a short while for non-reference cards with premium cooling solutions to be released by AMD's partner companies.
    The non-reference cards will be quieter and run cooler (and faster) than the stock design does.

    If NVIDIA "sees the light" and drops prices significantly, that may be the better choice so you'll get CUDA and PhysX capabilities.
