    Default Radeon 4870 Artifacts

    Hello, please help.
My Radeon is cold but I have artifacts...
Small points on the screen are flashing or I saw corner on straight road in GRID also in Forgeten sands silar things and in Alan wake. In benchmarks like Furmark and 3D Mark 2006 all is ok.
Screenshots of temps are in IDLE and STRESS after Furmark and 3D Mark 2007 + plus my card photo with new Arctic Cooling MX-2. System is fresh.
    Win 7 U x64
    2x2GB DDR2
    Radeon 4870 (no OC)
    Q9450 (no OC)
    New EVGA 500w (without
    2 x80mm and 2x 120mm clean fans in case.
Simple BTX Dell motherboard with really masive fan..All is clean.
Why I have artifact only in games?
After 1 hour (!) in furmark all is fine and temp are low like on that card (max 80°C)

Due to the age of the card, I have a feeling its just on it way out. have you replaced the TIM?

    TIM = Thermal Paste

The Temps on the card doesn't matter if the cards hardware as degraded.. The 4870 is about 8 yrs old and I think the CAPS and resistors are showing its age and starting to fail.
That's why you are getting the artifacts,

Most likely at this point the card is starting to fail. Does it only do it during benchmarking or with everything you do?

Ic.. IMO, I would just keep an eye on it, but most likely due to the age of the graphics card I have a feeling its just starting to fail. Plus, those 4870 were power and heat monsters.

Not my card. Normal temp for them are 80-90°C and my have 70°C max after one hour in Furmark (maxed out) so temp is not my problem.

Good move in buying a new card. I have an old HIS 4870 I pull out for testing peoples systems from time to time. It still runs great.

The artifacts are usually from defective vram or the transistors in the gpu core are starting to fail. It is time to upgrade.
