    Default Black Friday - 390 or 2nd 380?

With black friday coming I'm making my list of parts to get. After the cpu, (amd 8350), I am looking at getting a 2nd Sapphire R9 380 or would it be better to get the 390? Also, Sapphire updated their 380 with a slightly higher clock and a backplate. If the budget only has room for the 380, would it still play nice with my current 380 in crossfire?

Either one will crossfire with your card. Two 380s should be a fun way to go depending on your screen resolution.

Thanks for the quick response. Screen res is 1920x1200. Getting the 380 might leave enough room for a Creative Sound Blaster Z 30SB150200000 5.1 - OEM. Onboard sound just doesn't cut it.

Crossfire 380s should be great at that resolution.
I used a Rosewill Hive 750W with my two R9-280X OC cards for months.
Then I had a pair of 290X cards in there for a month or so until I got an 850W Seasonic.

Also, AMD crossfire is much better about compatibility than SLI is. Any 380 should do fine as a result. Also, I sometimes wonder if I shouldn't have just gone with the 6300. I'm not sure how beneficial 8 total cores are and with the less heat generation, a 6300 is much easier to push that 5ghz barrier than the 8350. On the other hand, I do have 2 8350 systems so...

For me, it's the other way around. If I get the 6300 now, I'll wonder if I should have got the 8350 instead and end up getting one anyway. Best to get it now and save the money for something else.

I haven't had any problems with SLI or Crossfire in a long time.

As for mitigating heat, my FX is a 9590 220W part, but it's in a Corsair Carbide Series Spec-03 case with good airflow, lots of Cougar Vortex PWM fans, and the AMD provided Cooler Master Seidon AIO that keeps it real cool.

Also, eight cores may mean a lot more with DX12 games.

I haven't been on here to message in a long time, but I still visit sometimes. I forgot my password and had it re-sent just so that I could message you and say: DO NOT BUY A SOUND BLASTER Z.
I have this unit (for about 2 years now) and can say that I should have trashed it a long time ago. It (the program) constantly freezes or crashes. The program to tune it is very slow. It is not a good card.

I'm open to suggestions here, I would prefer to keep it under $100 if possible. Here is a couple of cards I was looking at...

ASUS Xonar DX 7.1 Channels PCI Express x1 Interface Sound Car
